Seriously? I would have been amazed if anyone answered alright...

What would you have said? :pac:

Ha I was expecting Hannibal Lector to be honest. If someone came to the door, I'd explain there were some weirdos online that want to see their weird hotel. Would be class to get in for a look around.

I've been approached by friends of the owners.

The hotel may or may not reopen at some point.
The owners DO NOT want anyone knocking asking for a tour or a look inside.

Feel free to discuss the hotel, memories of it and Salthilll etc but the hotel is to be considered a private residence from this point on and I ask you now to not disturb the people living there further.

The Burren Mount will never open again, and until they take down business signs how will they stop people knocking? Bit of a strange thing to ask, but fair enough.

I've asked for them to put a sign or something to indicate the hotel is closed, unless one exists I haven't seen.

In fairness, I live in a private residence and it doesn't stop random people knocking on my door.

Aye but your house isn't a topic in this forum ;) (where do you live btw? *stalker mode on*)

Anyway, just to let curious people know the place is closed and won't let anyone in to have a look.

Never mind the Burren Mount , see the state of The Bailey building beside it .......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, there IS actually people living there, currently? I won't be knocking, just curious as I always thought it was empty (for the last five years anyway). Is this not the case?

I'm kinda picking that the JW's don't ask for a tour, though ;)

They want my soul, surely that's worse?

Not to mention the flocks of kids wanting me to "buy a line". They start so young these days.

That sounds like something from a horror film........

And apparently the owner or one of the owners who sold the plot to the developer is the long term partner of one of the main objectors to the galway city outer bypass ;)

    Mirabile Dictu !

The Burren Mont is being repainted... not sure if it is to do with a general cleanup of Salthill for the VOR or perhaps it may even be re-opening.

(Forgot to see if the abandoned car around the side is still there)

Too bad they don't repaint that Baily Point monstrosity next door too. It's a disgrace.

I think I'm actually slightly disappointed. Also at the fact that the curtains are now pulled in there.

I stashed a few rare bats in the Burrenmount a couple of years ago to keep that lot busy and the feckers moved out to the car. :p

Its not a listed building and neither is it in an Area of Architectural Conservation. Also as it is not derelict there is no influence that any temporal power has over it.

    Oi!

    Wait, what? Temporal power?

Is that a Delorean under the sheet outside?

funny they built the road around the blue mazda at the side of the burren mount , you would need to hoist it out of where it lay, the bould gabby's i do believe, i will ask him the next time i see him, maybe in the bently as tis opening up again..
......now where's that fleck suit & them white slip ons :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,353 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

You don't need the Bently for those treads. Just head down the back to Francies 21 Club*.

    *mind your head.

There's an exhibition in the Arts Festival programme that has paintings of the Burren Mount as one of it's components.

Earthly power, or in this case administrative sanction.

I got a quick mental blast of Damien from Iced Earth when I saw the photo to be honest.

Interesting thread! i'm not from galway myself but allways was curious about Burren Mount, it's like a window to the past and would be great tokeep it that way, instead of turning it into another faceless plastic hotel!

It is a faceless plastic hotel. It just happens to be a faceless plastic hotel from the 1970s.

LOL...True but still be nice to keep a reminder of 70s style in case we ever think about reviving the building style! :D

Is the interest in the burren mount gone seems like everyone has giving up on trying to get a look at in side.
