Whats better: Projecting on a wall or to a screen

    I have been using projectors for the last 10 years as the main home viewing unit. I have always projected on to a wall in the house, in rooms with different colour walls, and even a blue coloured wallpaper. Currently projecting on a cream wall in the sitting room.

    Has anyone here changed over to the screen and noticed a difference. I am looking at getting this. Any opinions?
    LUMENE Projection screen 1:1 - 84" (215 cm) -




    I use optoma hd200x and sony BDVe380 3D system.

    I am thinking about upgrading the projector to this http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/10715733/art/optoma/hd300x-3d-video-projector.html and go full 3D HD.

    Thats a 1:1 ratio screen, you should be looking at 16:9 ratio screens.

    You will notice the difference when using a screen, especially if you're currently using a coloured wall. Nice choice of PJ too!

    The picture is amazing on the wall, (ivory colour paint) I cannot imagine it being better. The hd200x is excellent, the 300x seems a better future buy all round.

    I'm not sure I get it!! You need a 1:1 screen because you watch TV shows via a USB stick, I've never seen a program shot or displayed in that ratio.....:confused:

    Still don't get it! Your looking to buy a 1080 3D projector and use a 1:1 screen to watch older programs that are probably 4:3! Sounds like a terrible idea!

    I already have a 1080p projector, the 1 to 1 screen was 9 euro from pixmania, and it can be adjusted to 4/3 or 16/9 or 2/35 1.

    I just wanna know if the picture on a screen can be any better than my wall.

    An 84" 1:1 screen will only fit appox 70" diagonal 16:9 image (maybe less) which is too small IMO.

    That screen is 84 diagonal, the pic is wrong

    If the 152cm x 152cm measurement is correct, the biggest 16:9 image you can achieve with that screen is 69" on the diagonal. Using a 4:3 ratio you're looking at approx 75". Still too small.

    Do you "really" watch enough 4:3 content to warrant such a compromise?

    too small for a projector, or too small relative to the screen?

    compare the prices of a 70" tv to a projector and the projector starts to make a whole lot of sense

    That's a glass beaded screen, more suited to a projector with a low light output, like a CRT projector, not suitable for your purposes.

    That's more like it, great size and correct ratio screen. I'd avoid anything glassed beaded though, they can sparkle and that would drive me cracked!

    Absolutely, I agree 100%, if the OP was limited to a 70" screen fair enough but he was looking at a 1:1 ratio screen which IMO is a bad idea.


    scale is one thing, but there are others. my screen is 110",and i watch from around 12ft. however, i'd take a smaller screen to keep the brightness levels up rather than have a huge washed out image. no arguement on the aspect ratio, not that it matters much more than avoiding having wasted non used screen, but i don't agree with calling image sizes too small, as happened a couple of times. there are cases when a 70" screen would be just right for a projector.

    Of course they are cases where a 70" would be perfect but this isn't one of them. He's looking at a 120" screen now.

    Are you taking umbrage with my 70" is too small comments?:confused:

    not taking anything at all, 70" is one of those odd places where users have a realistic choice between projector and tv, once you go much bigger you're in projector only territory. was just pointing out that even down there a projector is a valid option, and can offer a lot more bang for the buck, course the tv has a number of advantages,

    comments were more in a general sense than dealing with the ops problem i guess.
