its not just pollen that causes the allergies.... dust also causes it.... during heatwaves the dry dust getting blown up from a breeze or even moving traffic is enough to set some people off with the runny noses.

Heatwave? Dude, can we get some perspective here, we're in Ireland, not the Sahara and the sun staying out longer than 5 minutes is not a feckin heatwave! And if your 'dust' theory were true then I think people would be suffering year-round symptoms on our wind-swept little island.

I'm not having a go at anyone here or genuine hayfever sufferers, because I get it so badly myself sometimes it almost renders me dead but honestly, there are some people who just can't *wait* to hop on the "Illness-Du-Jour" bandwagon -you know the type, if it's going, they've got it!:pac:

not really... anything above 20 in ireland is considered a heatwave lol

as for dust... normally the wet damp climate reduces the dust... during dry spells the dust gets worse.

its why quarries & building sites often have to spray down the site to control dust levels.

Why would a heatwave make your hayfever worse? Hayfever symptoms are as a result of a high pollen count, not sunshine

Sunshine contributes in a large way to a high pollen count. I've always suffered the most on hot summer days as opposed to cold blustery overcast summer days.

You have my sympathies - have been there often.

I see a few have mentioned sources of local honey to where you live - I keep getting recommended that too, though I've never tried it.

Touch wood, I have been relatively fine this last few years - all I do is start taking the hay fever medication around the start of April. I currently use Nasonex nasal spray - one puff / spray in each nostril at the start of the day. :)

    Hope you get sorted.

Don't expect it to work straight out - it's something that builds up, hence me taking it from early in April when things are fine.

Due to the inclement conditions here my hay fever hasn't been to bad. To further the question about sunshine making hay fever worse. Every Tom, Dick and Harry likes to get the lawnmower out during good weather and tend to their flowers and what not so pollen rises quicker than it normally would.

some people get it mildly, I tend to get it horribly. Eyes feel like they're being stabbed with sewing needles right now. But luckily Im on prescription tablets and nose-spray (not that over the counter crap). So Im not as bad as I used to be. As a kid I scratched my eye so much it went completely grey!

Also, you guy should talk to your GP about it. If you have any important events coming up in the summer you can get an injection steroid that rids most of your hayfever for the summer. I got it for the leaving cert last year. But they wont really give it to you every year.

Inside with windows and doors closed, so I'm not too bad. Will be taking the dog for a walk later on, so I'll probably know all about it then.

Was very bad yesterday. Not too bad today even though I was out and about. This year has been exceptionally rough for it. I find Beconaze (not Flixonaze) nose spray a life saver.

Just read the thread. The last few days haven't been great because I forgot my medication. And please people ignore the old wives tales cures. Take an antihistomine (I use centrine, same as clarityn / Zirtec but cheaper) and flixonaze. When taking both of those each day I'm almost perfect. I had used beconaze before and that was good too.

Knew it was hIgh pOllen as soon as I woke up, eyes watering like mad and sneezing every few mins! Piriton and working inside all day seems to have worked.

Yesterday was the pits with hayfever.
Swollen eyes, stuffed nose and itchy ears.

I can handle the eyes by throwing cold water on them and the nose by blowing it but you just can't do anything for the ears! :(

I don't know if it was already posted here but if you eat honey from your area you don't get hayfever.
Apparently it works but it has to be local enough honey.

I'm only getting the sneezes and runny nose from recent hay fever spells. It used to be far worse for me, itchy eyes/throat etc.

Getting away very lightly this year so far. Normally dying at this stage

My symptoms are Itchy Eardrums, I want to scratch out my eyes and the odd runny nose. has anyone have a cure/ old wives tale cure for the itchy eardrum that doesnt involve a knitting Needle or cotton bud?
