Completely agree. I hate when people stereotype hip hop like that. All it shows is that they are completely ignorant about the genre.

What about the 95% of hip hop you havent heard, Like Retrospect for life by common, keep ya head up by 2pac, Everyday struggle by biggie

For every stereotypical hip hop song you can think of where its all about guns and hos or money most hip hop fans or rock fans can name you 10 rock songs that have no meaning.

If your not into that genre of music then chances are you probably don't know what you are talking about.

Are you really going to use the stats here? Do you think that Emo music is more or less likely to be about bitches than hip hop? Or acoustic music? Most rock isn't about your caricatures either, but hip hop is disproportionately about "bitches ", guns , drugs, money and cars comparatively.

Yeah you could also say that most rock music is about being broken hearted, being in love or drugs, or how much you can observe in the local pub of a saturday night.

You can use these stereotypical views on every form of music, Emo is all suicidal music and kids who want to rebel against the world.

Chances are you are picking the worst parts of the genre and using that as what all hip hop represents.

There are poets in every genre, Just because you havent heard them doesnt mean they dont exist.

Very good point, and these same women who would expect special treatment during a national emergency would also be highly offended if a guy held a door open for them - they need a door slammed in their faces to feel like "equals" :eek:

It's a hangover from when gender roles were more clearly (and artificially) defined. It lingers while other stereotypes and practices fall by the wayside, because not many people want to be the one who says "Hey, let's make this situation gender equal" because it would sound too much like saying "Let's deliberately condemn these women to death."

I still wouldn't expect to hear too many people saying "Women and children first!" in the near future though.

now , women are not seen as weak but men ( maleness ) are seen as bad and less worthy of oxygen

Never in the history of civilization has maleness been seen by the majority as a weakness or as less worthy than being female.

We have it easy overall, and always have. Just because society is a little more equal overall and men are negatively discriminated against in a small number of situations, doesn't mean that men are treated like second-class citizens overall.

This may or may not be an unpopular opinion, but I believe that many men who complain ad nauseum about discrimination against men are projecting their own insecurities about themselves.

Ha! Deal! I've no children so I haven't a clue but there was no ADHD in my day only bratty children that got swift rap on the knuckles when they stepped out of line. That's what I'm basing my (unpopular) opinion on!

What about on the news when it says "2000 people have died in a suicide bombing. 800 of which were women and children" thats the worst example, it's basically sayin that the 1200 men that died were of no significance compared to the 800 women and children. Im not saying that men are treated like second class citizens, thats ridiculous. I wouldnt say either that men have it easier than women, there are pros and cons to being either gender. I just think that when it comes to death, the death of a woman should not be deemed any worse than the death of a man!

I agree, but like I said, it's not intended as a slight against men when it's said. It's basically just a habit at this stage, and one that's dying out. You don't hear it so often on the news.
You can't really believe that people intend to say that the men are worth less when they say it, especially because on the news, it'll often be a man in charge of the wording of what gets said.
It's comparable to saying "God bless you" when someone sneezes: it's a habit with no real meaning behind it.

The part about men being discriminated against wasn't a direct response to you: just a general musing based on what a lot of posters say on threads like this, which spun off from your post and the reply to it.
