I'd say they dispatched the lot. They don't seem like the lot that would dispatch part orders unless it was a ridiculous long wait. They just put it in two packages because they only make boxes so big!

Lol yeah you are right. I looked at their site, and they have the mainboard as ready for dispatch.
They dispatched it at around 6pm so when I can expect it from DHL?
I heard DHL sucks, takes around 3 days to send it. And tomorrow is Saturday.
    Oh heavens, so can't wait!

I think mid-late next week. Possibly Wednesday or Thursday. They're not too slow but they wouldn't be as fast as some of the UK websites' shipping. You might get lucky and it could get moving a bit during the weekend.

    Hey there,
watching a video on how to assemble PC's and I realize I didn't get a heat sink fan.
Shouldn't that have been part of the list as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,600 ✭✭✭Eboggles

You got the boxed edition of the i5, which means the heatsink fan comes included. it's pretty loud and not a great fan, so you might want to get a nice aftermarket one when funds permit.

Ah ok, I see. Thought it was odd why you guys never mentioned getting a heatsink. This looks like a nice one from the reviews:

That's just an 80mm case fan. Try something like the Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 range, Thermalright True Spirit or Macho, or the Noctua NH-D14.

    Something like this?

That's an ok one, but it's been superseded by the 13 series. Have a look at those instead.

I have a crappy 17 inch monitor would that make good use of my graphics card? Or do I have to get a different monitor?

What did you get in the end? A 6870?
You'll need a DVI -> VGA adapter anyway but this should probably be included with the graphics card.

1440 x 900 is fairly low resolution by today's standards. It should work fine although you wouldn't be getting the best from your system. It's something that can be upgraded later if you can't afford/aren't sure if you want want to upgrade.

    Yes that's right. The 6870.
I was worried about that - that the monitor won't use the full power of the monitor. What monitor is reasonable to get?

How much do you want to spend?
The U2312HM is a great monitor for good colour and viewing angles.

However, if you look around, you can find cheap 1920x1080 monitors a bit over the the €100 mark.

If I am lucky 100-150 :pac:
Since I am going to get the Homeplug, cooler I want to get it from the same site and ship it one go. Save time and money, hopefully dabs will have something.

Hmm... what about this one (Maybe you can check your pockets or keep your eyes open walking down the road for the extra €2):

    Edit:
LOL - You could try and get a used monitor for €19! Must be a misprice or maybe it's a spare part?

That must be a misprice, otherwise very good deal lmao. I think I can afford another 2 euro xD

They're all fairly low resolution, except the last one and that's nearly the price of the IPS monitor.

I wouldn't really be bothered with anything below 1920x1080 now unless you wanted a small size in particular. Here's ones for that resolution.

Not a whole load of reviews around for it but it looks reasonably good.

    Hi!
I have the PC mostly built.. with parts connected.
I'm feeding power to HDDs, fans and case buttons.
But whenever I turn the computer on.. nothing appears on the screen. No Bios menu whatsoever.
    Any ideas? :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,600 ✭✭✭Eboggles

Throw up a few photos so we can see if everything is connected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 215 ✭✭Eman_321

Unfortunately I don't have a camera with me.
    And my phone sucks.
But I am pretty sure I have everything plugged in. From gpu, ram. But the monitor refuses to respond. No idea why!

    EDIT::
Also the power cord I got from them can't work here! So I am using one from my old PC.. but that surely can't be the problem, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

Nah, not the problem. Try taking the GPU out, and make sure the CPU connector is in right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,600 ✭✭✭Eboggles

    Well, I can't give much detail, but a few things you can try;

    Monitor Working?
    Standoffs?
    Just use 1 RAM stick
    Any startup beeps?
    4+4 pin CPU connected?

    Try those to get started.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 215 ✭✭Eman_321

    Monitor Working?
    Ans: Yeah
    Standoffs?
    Ans: Um, can you explain?
    Any startup beeps?
    Ans:
I didn't hear any.. Nothing is plugged into sound chasis header?
    4+4 pin CPU connected?
    Ans:
? I thought the only thing I needed was the 20+ pin and the heatsink to be connected

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,600 ✭✭✭Eboggles

You don't have the 4 pin connector in, that's your problem. It's normally on the top left of the motherboard. On my phone so no links, but plug it and you shall hopefully boot.

Don't forget to connect your CPU fan to the motherboard header.

And finally, standoffs are screws that fit info the case that the motherboard is placed on to make sure it doesn't short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 215 ✭✭Eman_321

I'm finding it difficult to screw in the standoff
I will look to see if I have the 4+4pin

You have to take the motherboard out of the case, so if I were you I'd just leave it on the ground and plug in the cables from there. It might only be just a four pin, arranged in a square 2x2 formation. Kind of like the graphics card PCIe power connector.
