    Hi Guys,

    I have an older HP Compaq 2510p. Going to upgrade the RAM to 4GB. (2GB in there at the moment).

    I have 2 questions:
    1. Will this thing take an SSD drive?

    2. It's running XP pro. How do I keep/get the old serial No and where do I download an install from? Can I install from a USB memory stick etc?

    If I got an SSD drive to work then I'd consider Win 7.

    Thanks
    T

    1. Unfortunately no, according to a review site that laptops hard drive uses the older PATA (IDE) connection;

    whereas SSD's uses the modern SATA connection.

    2. Check under the laptop, there should be a sticker with a 25 digit serial code for your Windows XP Pro installation.

    That laptop should still be OK to install Windows 7 on though, if you really wanted to,
    as it has a 1.2 GHz CPU and Windows 7 minimum requirement is a 1GHZ.

    You can get IDE SSDs.

    Fairly limited by the slow interface though.

    I don't think they're worth the money to be honest as it's no good to you afterwards and the life of that laptop probably won't extend far.

    Thanks Guys. Appreciate that.

    I'll stick with just a mem upgrade and reinstalling XP. I can see the serial code on the sticker underneath.

    Where do I get a copy of XP install files?
