I understand that it is, and that a new punishment was to be decided... But I'm not sure if a newco can be punished for the crimes of the oldco.

You'd not be punishing the newco for the crimes of the oldco. You'd be applying conditions to the entry of the newco straight into the SPL because essentially it is a brand new club which should in theory be working its way up through the leagues.

Anyone remember Charles Green telling Rangers fans that he had got a nod and a wink from HMRC that the CVA would be accepted? I know if I was a fan I wouldn't be forgetting that in a hurry, he was just being cruel getting their hopes hope just prior to season ticket renewal forms being sent out!

What I don't understand is, if there is so much money owed, why is Green allowed to purchase the assets (namely Ibrox, Murray park and I assume player contracts) for 5.5m? Their market value is undoubtedly much more than that?

Also, would the players themselves not now have a case to argue for free transfers/release from contracts under the fact that they signed to a different company and not the new one.
Surely an employer can't transfer your contract of employment to a different company without your consent?
Maybe I'm wrong though, just wondering.

He might as well play for St. Johnstone, at least they'll have European Football
    alex thomson ‏@alextomo

And what now of David Murray - whose father served a prison sentance for fraud? Still won't answer Qs from #c4news
    alex thomson ‏@alextomo

What doe Alex Salmond and all the interfering MSPs have to say now after their actions pleading against liquidation only antagonised HMRC?
Remember how #c4news reported how badly political interference in RFC went down with HMRC?
    alex thomson ‏@alextomo

Gloves off now. HMRC called to say this means "proper forensic examination". Whyte and Murray: they're coming for you both now.
    alex thomson ‏@alextomo

HMRC saying this allows them to investigate properly failure to pay tax by former Rangers directors

HMRC are like a dog with a bone at the moment, this will probably be still going on next year

There is no way the SPL clubs will vote against their application, they'd be cutting their noses off to spite their face, a lot of clubs rely on the gates and tv money from their games with Celtic and rangers.

From that point of view, you most certainly have a point but don't underestimate the strong feelings against Rangers getting away with this. There are lots of fans and club officials in Scottish football baying for blood and don't want to give them an inch.

Rangers will need a 11:1 vote AFAIK, they will not get that.

Also you forget that fans are putting pressure on their clubs to see Rangers punished properly. Which is more important for cash flow, tv money or gate receipts, season books and merchandise etc?

Rangers fans have promised various away game boycotts, eg Dundee Utd. Given this fan threat then what benefit is Rangers in the Spl next to Utd if they have a better chance of European qualification without them?

I honestly think it would be a massive mistake for the SPL if they voted against Rangers.
It would make an already non comeptitive league into Celtic finishing 30 points ahead of second place for the forseeable future.

It will also cost Soctland in europe and they will drop down the coefficients quickly with lesser teams not even getting past europa cup first round qualifiers.

Maybe...but if they vote in favour of them, the Scottish league will be the laughing stock of Europe.

No one should walk away with blue murder, be it Dunfermline, Kilmarnock or that team from Ibrox...and sorry, if I offend any of the teams mentioned above ;)

Is it not already with the way they only decided that Whyte was not fit and proper after the damage had been done

On another note, does anyone believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg for British football and the tax man, i.e are Rangers the only big club that decided to use various methods to not pay full tax bills.

    I think not.

A lot of fans of SPL sides have a very different view to yours. You cannot just let a club walk all over the rules, dump their debts and walk straight back into the SPL. I don't think Newco Rangers will walk straight back into the SPL, and there could be a lot of positives about that if other clubs can shake themselves down and sieze this opportunity.

This could be the best thing that could happen to the SPL, looking at the longer term.

its strange that the spl rules are different re liquidation etc etc as Loi teams rovers shels cork were just relegated immediately financial mismangement became apparent, personally I think they should just take the medicine and the quickest, fairest, and most honest way back by going to bottom div of scottish footie and work their way back asap, it probably would be the cheapest route too, but not sure if they have the bottle to do that as they've had most things "their own" way for generations. Its time for their lodge to get the finger out if they're gonna be saved.

There should be no compromise on sporting integrity. Scottish Football fans have made it clear that they will spend their money elsewhere if the SPL continues as a mechanism for Old Firm matches and/or leniency should to any club for cheating.

How could clubs expect to compete when a club is cheating and costing other clubs millions in lost revenue? Its ridiculous to suggest that they shouldnt be punished for it. Why am I arguing with a fan of a club that has been caught and punished for cheating? :pac:

    .

I guess, they want to set an example with the Ran**** case, something like a warning to other clubs all over the UK, if not even the whole lot of Europe.

Does sporting integrity mean anything to you? Rangers have been gulity of financial doping to gain competitive advantage and if they lose their BTC, they will have been doing it for over a decade. All those trophies and medals they will have cheated

Lots of high horses in here.

I actually couldn't give a toss about Rangers or the SPL, I'm just pointing out the obvious, the SPL needs rangers, for lots of reasons.

High horses or not, do you want to answer some of the specific questions?

The spl needs integrity and fresh thinking. Letting rangers back would send out the message that cheating is okay, that's not acceptable in any league in the world.

No its not obvious actually. Consider for a moment that those who follow the game in Sotland might know a little bit more about the bigger picture no?? Scottish football does exist outside the big 2
