I reckon if they want to get married they should start their own religion , (other than that I think they are cool to get civil partner ships and such.

What's marriage got to do with religion?
I'm an athiest, should i not be able to get married too, gay or otherwise?
If the church don't want them durty gays marrying, then fine don't let them marry in your church, but the state has no reason to bar it.

Its a religeous ceremony , a civil partnership is pretty much a marriage without the religion as far as I can see.

No, you're wrong there. You don't need a church at all to get married.
    http://www.groireland.ie/getting_married.htm

Most hotels that specialise in weddings have a room for the reception, and one for the wedding if you choose to do it there instead of a church. A wedding and marriage doesn't need an ounce of religion in it.

no it isn't, it's a legal ceremony which people often like to tag religious things on to

I got married in a hotel with an official registrar and a celebrant.
I am legally married, and I had a beautiful ceremony with music and poems and old Irish traditions etc...
Not a single religious thing about the entire ceremony.

Posting an airbrushed-te-f*ck photo probably wasn't the greatest way to argue the point.

But yeh, she's not fat. At all. It's fairly irresponsible to call someone fat, but especially when it's someone who very clearly is not.

I got married in a registry office. No religious aspect to it at all.

Get married in a registry office, on the beach, up a mountain or where ever the mood may take you and sign the legal declaration - hey presto you're now married and not a priest in sight.
Get married in a church, surrounded by priests, bishops or even the pope himself if you can wangle it, but don't sign that legal declaration - you're still single, no matter what the priest tells you.

Mariage is not a religious ceremony - as far as i can see.

Perhaps pookiesboo saw a picture of her pregnant and thought she was fat?

Jose Mourinho set Joe Cole back massively as a footballer and if it wasn't for him Cole would go down as the best English player of his generation.

I agree. It's about time someone had the bravery to voice this unpopular opinion.

I hate that people acknowledge and agree that the world is massively over populated, but then go ahead and have kids. Its like they havent made the connection that creating more life will just add to the problem. Do they think its just the responsibility of other nations to worry about it?

If they are so desperate to have a child why dont they adopt one, there are hundreds of thousands of children that need loving homes. I think its quite selfish to create more with the situation as it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,810 ✭✭✭✭sbsquarepants

The world is not over populated - it's resources are just unevenly distributed. If you can afford kids - have as many as you like, the problem only arises when you can't afford them. Unfair, but there's life for you!

So whats the problem , if you go back to my original post on this matter you will see I said if they wanna get married ceremoniously they should start their own religion , if they want to sign a piece of paper all power to them I think its legal now ,
You cant mention gay marriages without everyone attacking you without even thinking about what your saying .

I also think gay people are spoofers , well any I know are , its sometimes makes me think its all part of one mental illness. Like when you think of it gay people have the exact same physical make up as straight people , hormone levels are the same as straight people , Im not saying Im 100 per cent right but shouldnt electro shock therapy be considered.

    :pac:

That attitude is exactly what I'm talking about. Just because you can afford 10 kids doesnt mean you should have them. Nobody is thinking about the effect it has on the earth and the greater population.

I suppose you should go ahead and have loads of kids and let someone else worry about unequal resource distribution.

Oh and where are we gonna put the waste created by all these extra people? Just keep adding to the land fills?

Its not just about having enough resources for everyone, its about the damage we do in the process of gathering these resources.

That attitude is exactly what I'm talking about....

No it isn't. Your original complaint was that the world is over-populated. It isn't. Large sections of the developed world are going into population decline and the UN has warned of a demographic time-bomb which countries need to start addressing now as people have less kids and populations age.

Out of control consumerism, and over-consumption. There you have a point, but then again that's not strictly related to how many kids you have.. so simply stopping having kids won't really impact that at all, because those kids turn into workers. When people stop having kids those workers will have to be brought in from elsewhere in the globe, and basically your premise is 'we stop having kids, import our workers later on and then refuse to let them consume the very things we enjoyed...' sounds almost like a new version of slavery if you ask me. On the other hand you could just have the kids you want, and raise them to be more responsible consumers and ecologically friendly.

The overpopulation "argument" is truly unpopular in every sense of the word as it is clearly a lie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,443 ✭✭✭loveisdivine

Apologies, maybe I should be more specific and say the world is overpopulated with the wrong kind of people

My concerns arent about whether we have to import workers. Nobody is looking at the bigger picture. Quite frankly my major concerns are not how its all gonna effect us, humans, but hows its going to effect the planet (yes I'm a tree hugger blah blah blah) We lose 1 species of plant or animal every 20 minutes, and its mostly us that are to blame. Whether its because weve eaten them all, destroyed their habitat by using the land to either grow food for ourselves or for somewhere to live, or because we have screwed with the eco-system and introduced non native species that have destroyed the area.

How is having more people on the planet going to help this? Never mind is there enough resources for all of us, what about all the other plant and animal species on the planet?

The kind of people who worry so much about overpopulation they think others shouldn't have kids should probably just kill themselves. Same end result with marginally less whining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,598 ✭✭✭✭prinz

How is having more people on the planet going to help this?

How is having less people going to help this, when as it is less and less people are consuming more and more? You are basically saying less people = less consumption = less environmental damage, but the fact remains that the populations in the developed world are actually falling and yet consumerism is booming. Less people does not always equal less environmental damage.
