Nuba people of Sudan

The plight of the Nuba people in Sudan is one that seems to get very little attention. Exceptions below:

Giles Fraser wrote about it in The Guardian yesterday

Bishop Gassis from the region was on a tour to raise awareness recently and was featured on Pat Kenny's radio show last month.

However the story is seldom in the news.

The UN sets deadlines and deadlines pass.

When the delivery of humanitarian aid to refugees is being impeded this is surely mass murder by proxy.

Again it looks like the UN won't intervene because of Sudan's economic alliance with China.

Google pages from Ireland with “RTE nuba sudan”, the top 4 results dismayingly refer to George Clooney. But his campaigning and arrest wasn't enough to keep the story in the news for long.

Is there any serious agenda for reporting world news at all in Ireland? Do the bodies need to be Irish before our media is interested?

What going on in Sudan in general is deplorable, and your right the Nuba people aren't getting much attention. There was a great deal of attention, in regard to what happened in Darfur, and that was due to the likes of Geogre Clooney, who raised the profile there.

I have no idea why the current atrocities are getting less attention. Maybe its a case of fatigue, when it comes to Sudan?

So many atrocities have happened in Africa now for decades it's no longer of public interest. Society has become desensitized to it. The reason other civil wars / uprisings have gained widespread attention is due to them occurring in areas considered to have been previously stable, essentially the majority of Arab Spring risings.

Africa on the otherhand has had these events going on for decades whether it be civil war, genocides or uprising and military coups. It's not going to change anytime in the near future and due to their relative frequency in comparison to other world regions, they're no longer of interest to the majority of the public.

....but if campaigners focus on more than one issue they're accussed of jumping on every bandwagon.

Yeah sucks for them. However I doubt they care what people think and push on with it regardless. At least you'd think they would anyway.
