Tax return on child maintenance

Hi,

Any info re claiming tax back on maintenance of €70 p/w paid to mother of my child, we were not married.

Is the payment agreed in a legally enforceable document?

Yes, court ordered maintenance

If the money is for the maintenance of the child there is no tax relief (if it's for maintenance of the ex there may be relief).

Not being smart, but think about it, why would you get tax relief for maintaining your own child? Couples who are together don't get tax relief for maintaining their children so it'd kind of incentivise not being in a relationship (or at least pretending not to be in one!)...

You may be eligible for additional tax credit and standard rate band if the child stays with you from time to time:

If you do read through revenue it contradicts its own info so just enquiring, wouldn't like to be giving the state any more money than i have to :rolleyes:
