They are doin us all a favour by reducing prices for smaller listed items ;)

"a large number of dd'ers contacted us.... LIARS.....
    What a crock of sh$te.

    Publish these messages so.
They are lying to customers to bring in a price hike. Plain and simple.

While I'm on my rant box, their search is sh*te too.

Somebody else called it right, they were sold to some norwegian company a few months back and this is obviously the start of the payback.

Well lads, no use moaning on here, put your money where you mouth is (or less of it anyway!!!) and advertise somewhere else.
    www.buyandsell.ie
    www.adverts.ie

Plenty of other good sites where you'll sell your car.

Maybe the increase is to pay for the 51% buyout by Schibsted? As with most acquisitions it's all about profit while the rest of us have to pay for it. Only time will tell how it goes. But I can see buy & sell taking the vast majority of your business.

However, we're delighted with the investment we received and have absolutely nothing to pay off as your suggest. We have 154 sections on the site, out of which only 9 were increased by €2. 87 of our sections were reduced to only €1 which we feel makes things more fair.

Good on yea, I posted too not sure if I'm blocked but they haven't replied. I can handle the price hike it's the bull**** they come out with trying to pacify it's users stating it's a fair policy. FAIR bolloxs to that I'd respect them more if they just came out and said it as it is. If it was a fair pricing policy you would be shouting from the rooftops but is it visible on their homepage? Nope! On their blog? Nope! In there newsletter? Nope! Well if it's that fair why are they trying to hide it!

Clear case of the emperors new clothes, keep telling them it's a new fair pricing structure and they will believe it. They think we are stupid!

Yeah I have seen it before with others. As you have said it is the way they think we can just take it. Their response to it being removed and I been blocked was their spam filters.

Yeah right if you go down through other comments you can see where buy & sell was mentioned but it is still there.

You speak the truth and your given a smack

Donedeal might reply saying they have nothing to pay back following the investment. While that is correct, I presume the now controlling partner are making wholesale changes to try to maximise return on investment.
This wont help them. Without the car sales element, its dead imo. Even if this results in a watering down of their position in car sales advertising, it is a major error. You will get some people putting cars into cheaper categories, some people going to buyandsell, all the time destroying what they currently have. Up to now, there was no point looking at buyandsell. With this change, alot of people will figure, its worth a look. They are into a downward trend straight away.

They do but with people taking about going elsewhere what good is it if no one uses it.

I also heard they just employed a new online commercial manager, who was with Autotrader at one stage. Hmmm online commercial manager with a history in the car game....do the maths

It's raking it in and all they're doing is running a website.

ever seen how much it cost to run a website monthly? factor in wages for sales staff, light heat, 24/7 power, development staff, someone to be on call 24/7 in case the site goes down? thought not...

DoneDeal had revenues of slightly more than €3 million in the year to the end of April, 2011, with margins of between 30 and 40 per cent. With the sale likely to have been agreed at a multiple of profits, the business has almost certainly been valued at several million euros under the deal.

Good luck with adverts.ie (hope you have an empty shed for stuff people pay you with)... It's still a fiver, for what it is, it is worth it!

Not factual otherwise they wouldn't exist and they certainly wouldn't exist in an office block in Donnybrook with a huge number of staff. They might not have the same level of traffic as DD but if DD keep going this route who knows

Just as an example, buyandsell has ads going back to 496 days, donedeal goes back only 72 days.

Buyandsell have 4,323 ads for cars, donedeal have 49,213

Now that's not a gauge on how many people view the site, but if you're looking for a particular car, say a suzuki liana, there's 34 on donedeal and 6 on buyandsell. Which site will you keep an eye on?

Buyandsell is a carbon copy of donedeal, only with less ads.

So all the stats you have just put up there, does that mean no one will see your advert? Not trying to be smart but there are users on there. It doesn't even have to be Buy and sell but there are options out there for people looking to sell their stuff. DD is not the only place and they will be seen.

Quite a big increase , 4 euro would have been 30 per cent. Think they made a bloody fortune when things were flying and now they want to get back to that level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,320 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Absolutely agree David. just guarantee you if someone's looking for a car, they don't just google it. They have to about the site to use it. buyandsell is just known as a paper you used to buy once a week before carzone was invented.

Nobody I know uses buyandsell, and a lot of people I know dabble in cars.

DD is one of the most user friendly sites that I have encountered , that is why they have been so sucessful , however that increase may open the door for others.... here's hoping :D

Rubbish comment, Done deal is based and run from an Irish town employing Irish people and paying Irish taxes....

It's certainly your choice to use other sites, I do. But I hope your not in any sort of a hurry to actually sell anything ....

Gumtree is still free, so is buyandsell last time I checked (a few years ago I admit).

A simple to use site that could advertise cars would be quite easy to make, but perhaps that is a little too obvious? I mean donedeal was beautiful how it set up, the adverts were everywhere and it just stuck in peoples minds as the place to sell things. Radio Nova did something similar. I guess if you wanted to take it on, you would need to advertise it to punters everywhere, search engine optimisation would be a must as well.

I'm going off on a tangent here, never sold a car on donedeal so your mileage may very. still, at a 66% increase, even if the owners lose half their customers, they still make bigger margins, so it could be good for quality etc in general.

    :(

might seem harsh but after this news yesterday it has confirmed what i initially thought when i heard about the selling of the company. i can't help but think the shafting is only going to get worse so think i will get out now, leaving a small vote behind by unfriending them on facebook () and not placing any more ads with them.

what's the alternatives then? i saw adverts and buy & sell mentioned here, does anyone here have any personal experience of selling on these? i like the idea of adverts as it is a part of boards and boards is brilliant, but i have heard bad things about being offered loads of crap in exchange for your items. i guess i will try both and see how i fare anyway

looks to be the start of the end for them in my opinion, and the cheek of them sending out a newsletter just this morning with their NEW ad in it. 2+2=5 dd ..wonder how they paid for that, eh?
