I think there def is a need for the next gen sooner than later for one simple reason - graphics. Some might moan that graphics arent everything ... true , but they are the main driver of new hardware sales whether we like it or not. Im sick to death of watching these beautiful trailers of gameplay like medal of honourand star wars 1313 with excellent lighting, textures and aniamtions while all the time knowing its running on a crazy powerful PC rig and when those games eventually some to console they'll look nothing like the trailer.

If you want to answer the question "why the rush for new consoles"... compare battlefield 3 on console to the PC version and theres your answer. Map size, player limits and graphical fidelity are vastly superior on PC.

Except MS and Sony will do the classic mistake of throwing MASSIVE CPU's and GPU's into the next gen consoles (since thats what people only ever focus on in the tech specs of systems) and then sprinkle only a scrap of RAM into the systems, and thats what causes the bottlenecks in the current gen. Currently the 360 only has 512Mb of RAM and the PS3 has 256 of system and 256 of graphics memory. On a PC that would barely cover your OS (think Windows 7 requires 1Gb minimum) and something around the 6Gb mark is now almost standard for a half decent games rig. My guess is the PS4 and Next-Box will have around 2Gb at the most for RAM, where doubling that would cost them nothing in the total build cost and take up a tiny amount of room but offer so much more. I just checked, 2Gb of laptop memory costs $15 in America for off the shelf price, let alone direct from a manufacturer.

But if either MS or Sony can cut out a good amount of RAM to save $5 in under-cutting the competition, they will do it

Saw that Earth Defense Force will be arriving onto the Vita in the future, probably the best game announced for the system at E3 so far :D

Pretty pathetic, for the new PS+ do you lose the games after the month period?

I think Sony Smash Brothers is what it'll be known as. Not just because of the obvious reasons but also because it's easier to say.

So Nintendo would need to do something drastic to mess things up. They got the hardware details out of the way and they have another conference later about 3DS titles. So this will be mostly Wii U with probably some of the bigger 3DS titles. They may show connectivity between 3DS and Wii U and NFC examples. And I'd say they amy have some casual stuff as we saw mentioned at Ubisoft's. Just I think/hope they'll get through casual stuff quickly.

One pitfall a lot of these conferences fall into is demos that go on too long.

The ram in consoles is different to pc ram. It's much faster and actually costs quite a lot.

I'm disappointed that Tomb Raider and the Last of Us haven't played up their supposedly more unique aspects. Now, obviously the combat in both is a little different to the norm - especially The Last of Us, which admittedly looks tense - but both games supposedly have heavier 'survival' elements. Couldn't spot anything of the sort in Tomb Raider particularly amidst all the explosions. Would have loved to see demos of the other sections of the game in action.

I guess the action is what sells games, in the end, but I think both are promising far beyond the execution of their combat. Alas, their respective developers didn't quite seem brave enough to play that up. That's E3, I guess.

Same question asked on the blog.
    Reply:
Good question! That aspect is the same as before – the dates for availability are regarding your initial download of the game – the same as now.

If you make sure that you go and opt to download a game before it exists Plus, then you can download it and keep playing it for as long as you’re a subscriber.

Likewise, if you are running short of space, you can delete it from your hard drive and retrieve it from your download list at ANY time – but you have to keep your subscription active.

And if you stop subscribing then renew, you get to access your games again. At least that's how it works now. So you don't need to constantly renew.

Its hard to demo survival aspects in 7/8 minute chunk....I hope its in there in some aspect of Resi6, the 3 seperate campaigns are each meant to be longer than Resi5 so it can't be crash, bang for what 20 hours.
I hope the next gen machines are at E3 next year, I don't want to see another show with shat kinect games, weak nintendo rip offs or 3rd party games with childish timed exclusive dlc.

Actually, speaking of Resi 6, that's probably the worst demo I've seen.

At first I was impressed by the graphics, which really are rather fantastic.

Then Leon outran a massive explosion, and the helicopter showed up. Oh dear.

The South Park game - it looks to me like it'll play like Final Fantasy with 2 groups of time based actions etc. If so, instant no for me, that's a very frustrating and boring type of game as far as I'm concerned.

Overheal mentioned Space Marine (you should definitely play it Chinholio, it's a very good game, especially for 40k Fanbois like me :D) - I'm bitterly disappointed that it's not getting a sequel because they're working on the Dark Forces MMO instead. Big big mistake I think, just look at how badly SWTOR is being slated to see that it's pointless trying to break into the MMO market - doubly so if you're a studio that's in the sort of financial trouble THQ is.

Do you mean dark millenium? The 40k MMO? cus thats been scrapped into another single player game

It's not standard memory and as seen with the Vita Sony will build to hit a price tag that may be at a loss but they learn a lesson from the PS3 and MS are unlikely to try to out preform the PS4 by throwing money at it does not win you anything in the long run.

Earth Defense Force on Vita would actually be amazing and the mission structure of that game means it should work really well on a handheld. Hope it's true!

I've got that and Infamous 2. But I'd say in order to get games few people have, they'd have to use games people don't want. Still have to admit it's a brilliant deal.

So was just reading that Rayman Legends is a Wii U exclusive and not multiplatform as expected. Though I'm sure they'll release a sequel for 360 and PS3 as well.

Had to laugh at the PS3/Vita AC3 connectivity. Skins and weapons? Bit of a joke since we've seen connectivity before that adds to the gameplay.

EDF isn't that the game that makes even PS3s chug with about 1,000 giant killer ants and robots on screen. Think South Park game has potential, thinks its got Paper Mario style gameplay only problem is I don't want to be called the New Kid for 30 hours

Looking forward to Tomb Raider but a bit disappointed that it looks like an Uncharted clone. I thought it would be a bit like MGS3, surviving in the wild, hunting and the like. There might be elements of that but we just haven't seen it yet. Still looks good though.

As VinLieger said, its been cut down to a SP rpg with a general MP portion ontop. All the MMO aspects are meant to be gone. THQ said about a year ago it was gonna be their highlight and centre for E3 2012 but then they hit financial problems and such.

From what i saw of the game, probably a good thing. 40K needs a MMO similar to Planetside 2 and Dust 514 since the Everquest model doesnt suit what the likely direction will be (Speece Mehrens, Spacee Mahrinees, SPEESSSH MEHRRRRENENES), hopefully when they are out some dev team coudl take that and slap a 40K skin on :D

So finally caught up with everything from yesterday. Before E3, the games I was looking forward to were Amazing Spiderman, Tomb Raider, AC 3, Last of Us and Resi 6. Since catching up from all the conferences I can now add South Park, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Watch Dogs, Beyond, Crysis 3....and a little bit more excitment for Last of Us.

Gotta love Sony trying to push the PSN + with all them free games as well. Seems like a good deal and they had some impressive numbers associated with PSN and PSN+.

Was kinda expecting a bit more for Vita ,but Assassins Creed and Call of Duty could give it the lift it needs.

Microsoft really let the side down with a poor show. Kinect, kinect, kinect, internet browser, kinect, kinect, black ops 2. I dont need Kinect to play Fifa thank you very much. Saying that, the Smart glass thing is kinda cool alright, but just looks like theyre trying to cash in on WiiU and Vita technology.

Was kinda hoping Sony would finish off with GTA 5 as a big surprise. I know Rockstar said theyd be a no show this year but i fond it hard to think that GTA 5 wil be released this year if they are not gonna be at E3....it could still possibly be one of the E3 Surprise Games scheduled for later in the week :p

I think it's RPG but at the same time they did talk about how to get from one place to the next in the town, so it must have some free roaming.
