Last Friday, Comreg, after 4 years of consultation started the multi-band spectrum award auction process.

Closing date for submission of application forms and deposits is Friday 20th July.

Minimum price of €20m per lot of 5 MHz of paired sub-1 GHz spectrum (€260m/13 blocks/65MHz) and €10m per lot of 5 MHz of paired 1800 MHz spectrum (€150m/15 blocks/75MHz) for a 15 year licence.

What a total waste of an irreplaceable resource.

We need 20MHz channels and a single wholesale operator or else any new system will be a marginal improvement or worse once it has an economic number of customers.

Nor will Comreg insist on high enough mast density.

    STUPID STUPID !!!

Nor has anyone a clear idea how to mitigate interference to Cable TV, Cable Broadband and Digital Terrestrial TV.

Comreg is very clear, it's RTÉNL/Saorview's responsibility to inform the trade/public of possible interference and for the public to remedy any problems at their own expence.

Different to the UK's position where £180m has been allocated by the government to fix 1 TV for an estimated 2m homes that may be affected by 4g services although Freeview estimate it will cost up to £200m.

    They should be sacked.

Criminal irresponsibility. Spectrum management & protection, not raising money from licences is Comreg's job.
