Primary schools in South Dublin who teach German or Spanish

    Hi all,

    My wife and I had our first baby boy 5 weeks ago and we are looking around at different primary school options. The most important thing for both of us is to find a school that teaches a foreign language other than Irish from a young age.

    Does anyone know of such a school in the south dublin / north wicklow area?

    Unless you can find a private school. the answer is no. The modern landguages pilot in primary schools has been cancelled this year.

    Well to be honest, I would even consider a private school if I had no other option...

    St. Killian's German school is a fee paying primary and secondary school in Clonskeagh, South Dublin. Here's the link...

    they even have the advantage of not inflicting Irish on kids til 4th or 5th class :pac:

    The Lycée Francais on Foxrock Avenue also does something similar to Clonskeagh - all subjects taught through French up until the senior classes, where it becomes a mixture of English and French. It's also fee-paying.

    Killians is "less German" though, they only have German as a subject in Primary.

    Thanks for the replies guys. It would appear that Killian's is the only option if I want to pursue this, but it does seem quite strange that they don't being teaching Irish until 4th/5th class since Irish is still compulsory in the Leaving Cert.

    It really is quite shameful that the modern languages pilot was cancelled in public schools on so many levels.

    I wouldnt worry about Irish at Killians, they get LC results in the subject. Apparently its seen as a novely when start it later, so arent bored to tears of it like a lot of kids
