Jesus, are you stalking me? **shudder**. Anyway this is the first I've heard of their treatment of immigrants, I just think they'd have known better than to treat people like this given what they've been through.

Well, it's not really a whole lot to do with Judaism. When you're told that half of the world is against you and looking to kill you, then you will naturally gravitate to people who look most like you and share the most culture with you.
Becoming more xenophobic makes a population less specific about those they dislike and more specific about those they like.

    That's a pretty weak rebuttal.

What about the Israeli Arabs who were involved in the protests?

Israel is an understandably xenophobic state, given that the country was invented into existence by simply removing people from their homes and slotting in foreigners.

Sounds like the Plantations up north.

Yes, it's stuff you might see in other countries. I'm not exactly sure why people are surprised that it's happened in Israel. If there's any country who knows how to do prejudicial hate, it's Israel.

It looks as these migrants are Muslim, I wonder if they were Jewish would they be more 'acceptable' to Israel?

how many posts will it take for the israeli bots to come in and talk about how great the place is??

I'm in no way condoning these actions, but always find it unusual that Israel appears to be held-up to a level of scrutiny around here that other countries don't. I didn't see a thread being started about the over 3000 human rights abuse cases that Amnesty International reported as taking place in Cuba last year, or the massacres taking place in Uganda each day, or the continuing government oppression of freedom movements in Laos and Vietnam.

Probably because of Israel's constant lies that it is a democracy and a beacon of light in the Middle East.

I have yet to see any of those places claims to be beacons of democracy on a regular basis, and claiming to have the most "moral" military in the world. Israel has a habit of claiming to be better than everyone else, and then complaining when people hold them to that standard.

The middle east, being a massive oil source, tends to draw attention. One might say the same about Syria at the moment.

I agree, But i think its more of a fact what they do behind the scene's and not are who they say they are.

Israel is alot like Kim Kardashian, they portray an air of sophistication, but are a cold calculating whore with an eye for world domination.

Well, one may say many things about Ms Kardashian, but she couldn't be accused of racism.

Israel is an apartheid state. I really feel sorry for the honest Jews who were hoodwinked into moving there by the Zionist movement.

Many of them had no alternative, having been forced out of other countries in the middle east. Israel was their only alternative.

The rest of the middle east has been much more of an apartheid state when you consider their attitude towards Jews.

They should keep xenophobic comments out of their parliament and take asylum seekers seriously like every other civilised country, for starters.

Clearly if the migrants moved to Israel, then it's a much better country than they one they came from. So sounds like it's not that bad. There are racist protests in every country.

    Stop flattering her!
    ****
Having most certainly now come out of the whacky-liberal schooling system in this country, which quite openly favours Palestine in all things holy-land related, I now sympathise with the Israelis.

Seeing as all their chums in the Middle East want to exterminate them (where have we seen that before...), why bother negotiating with them. Tell Hamas and the boys, we'll give you food, take down our walls, allow you to get on with your lives, so long as you tell Iran, Syria, and the rest of them, to STFU and leave us alone. Then you can live with us. We have the guns, missiles etc. Its in Israel's interest to maintain the status quo.

While I accept that, like in NI, its up to the ruling, occupying party to start sorting things out, I don't accept that anyone who cohorts with terrorists or commit terrorist acts have the right to sit down with a quasi-legitimate power and expect anything. Mc Guinness and Adams didn't bring guns into the Good Friday agreement, Hamas would.

    According to Wikipedia:

Jews who left or fled Arab and Muslim countries and their descendants, known as Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews,[326] constitute approximately 50% of Jewish Israelis.

Some rediculous generalisations in this thread!

Text: Arab peace plan of 2002

Peace plan still being ignored by Israel from 2002. Also, peace deals with both Egypt and Jordan.

So peace plan already offered, an offer of peace from everyone in the arab league. Your claims about the region are rather fictional if you ask me.

Well, you seem to be happy enough with Israel, where the IDF protect settlers engaging in terrorism against Palestinians on a regular basis. Again, you version of things is rather fictional.

You realise that the settlements are all in the areas governed by Fatah/PLO? That its Israel acting outside its international borders in these areas?

    http://edition.cnn.com/2012/05/28/opinion/ghitis-israel-immigrants/index.html

They certainly seem a lot friendlier towards asylum seekers than most countries:

Migrants who come mostly from Sudan and Eritrea have chosen Israel as their destination because it is one of the most prosperous states in the region and because it offers some protection for refugees. Despite the protests of right-wing politicians and of some sectors of the population, Israel has so far refrained from forcing the vast majority of refugees to return to their native countries.
Anger over illegal immigrants in Israel Open Mic: Israel immigration tensions
Many countries keep asylum-seekers in prison-like camps under indefinite detention. Israel is building a detention facility where refugees would remain while their cases are processed. But until now, they have been receiving visas that allow them to live anywhere in the country. Still, they live in limbo without a right to work legally.
Unlike other countries that have returned refugees to their nation of origin or pushed them back to the state from which they crossed the border, Israel, a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, has done neither. But the situation is becoming untenable and pressure for deportations is growing.
Government figures say about 60,000 African migrants now reside in Israel, double the figure from 2010, with between 2,000 and 3,000 more arriving each month. The numbers are enormous for a country the size of Israel. It is roughly equal to the number of illegal immigrants found, for example, in Australia, a country 350 times the size and triple the population of Israel.

Bear in mind that Israel is a very small country. Many countries are struggling to deal with increasing populations and less resources and this is why immigration has become such an issue worldwide. not just in Israel. It's a difficult issue and so far very few countries have found an easy solution, except perhaps zero-tolerance approaches by countries such as Japan. I'm not advocating that method at all, just saying that a debate about this needs to be had, regardless of where we live.

As usual the anti semites are out in force and people wonder why Israel takes such a hard line.

There is almost no other country that would have a thread like this set up to highlight something happening there. The level of hatred aimed at the Jews in general and Israel in particular really is sickening.

The outstanding irony of this thread is the fact that it concerns racism in Israel. This again gives the opportunity for the anti Jewish racists to vent their predjudice.

Meanwhile in the neighbouring country people are being slaughtered daily by their government but that's OK, they're killers are not Jewish.
