Crossfit new england got their medals stripped a few years back for apparently taking jack3d or something along those lines.

You're going to have to come up with something to back that up...

Only way I could see it happening was if it was because they were advertising the company and HQ took a dislike to it. Which would be ironic considering Froning is now sponsored by BSN and Annie T by EAS.

EDIT: ok nevermind, found it - http://games2010.crossfit.com/blog/2010/12/change-2010-affiliate-cup-rankings,958/

Seems a bit suss tbh. Like proving they test for the sake of it, and catching someone for something relatively benign. Doesn't really effect the "sports" image.

Hah, good luck modding that one. You would need to double your man power just to deal with L trolling it let alone the rest of us.

I was thinking of being innovative and having boards first pro-trolling charter. :)

But seeing as crossfit is now a sport it wouldn't make sense to place it in the rec category.

I don't understand what crossfit actually is. Is it all classes based on the workout of day or do you get a program and do your own thing?

    Generally;

    1) people come in early and foam roll
    2) group warm up
    3) skill/strength work
    4) Standard WOD template scaleable to suit all
    5) cool down

When executed right it's a fantastic format in fairness.

Most business's that fill a need and thrive tend to have a good model behind them alright.

I am just suspicious of any activity that puts so much weight into self-promotion, self-branding and marketing. It works on the principle of elitism, and therefore attracts novice athletes who become insufferably smug.

Then you get all these guys who, in another era, would be doing ultra-marathons and ironman stuff because they want to 'test themselves' because their personal life is so dull and it just sets of a vicious cycle of machismo and injury-prone training.

I just don't think complex, heavy lifts, should be done for time or in an exhaustive state.

Could you give a example of this?

remember I have no clue about crossfit

remember I have no clue about crossfit

30 snatches with 60kg as fast as possible

30 clean and jerks with 60kg as fast as possible

Snatch ladder from this years Game's open workouts:
Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:
    35kg/75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
    62kg/135 pound Snatch, 30 reps
    75kg/165 pound Snatch, 30 reps
95.5kg/210 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible

    It is pretty moronic like.

If it was just this it would be great. I think it all went arseways when they started to market it as a sport. The "Sport of Fitness" is here apparently, sponsored by Reebok.

I think the two lads have given good examples of how crossfit can be genuinely dangerous from an injury point of view. Now, I don't think any of the crossfit ireland or dublin guys post on this forum, so I don't feel quite comfortable giving it a few kicks while there is no one here to defend it. So I will say, not everyone in crossfit does the crazy **** that is seen at the competitions. So you have to commend cross fit for bringing the olympic lifts and their variations to the masses, but you have to critisie them for trying to turn them into a metabolic conditioning tool where form goes out the window in pursuit of either volume or mass or both.

Like a sensible person really doesn't go in for one more deadlift, at a weight they've never lifted before, after doing 45 minutes of intense exercise and probably a lot of previous deadlifts, just to make a point. You see this in crossfit competitions and it just promotes back injury (despite so much of the concept being about promoting heatlh).
