Jeep VRT query

Jeep imported in 2008 from Canada given reg plate of 2008 although Jeep was manufactured in 2007. Imported into Ireland as a passenger however when registered seats taken out as registered as a goods vehicle although VRT was paid as a passenger not a commercial/goods. Seats still with garage and when imported into Ireland vehicle had seats upon inspection so Duty would of been based on passenger model not commercial as access to Jeep would not have been possible until after clearing customs. Jeep currently has Irish plates so I presume when putting seats into Jeep there would be no VRT to pay as it originally came into Ireland as passenger Jeep, correct? And I presume there is a paper trail to verify this somewhere in between Customs and Revenue to prove this, yes?

    Much thanks,

    Michael

    Ask the VRO.

What does it say on the VLC? Is it down as a commercial or Private? Has tax been paid as commercial or private up to now?

Do an online history check. If it comes up as VRT category A then it has been registered as a passenger vehicle, so you are all set.

Re. year of manufacture, it doesn't matter. Any car bought new in Ireland in the first week of January for example has obviously been manufctured in the prior year. Not an issue.

It's whatever is on the VLC document that counts, doesn't matter what seller is saying was or wasn't payed.

Thanks mate, the reason I asked is because it was registered new in 2007 in Canada and put on the road in Canada in 2007 but I recall vehicle registration for Ireland was date of registration not year imported to Ireland unless they changed by date reg'd here. I brought it up as a year older could save a few quid on VRT if I get screwed for avoiding VRT
