Blind spot mirrors

    Just wondering do many people use blind spot mirrors attached to their side mirrors? I'm currently learning to drive and my instructor's car has them on both side mirrors. I find it much easier to reverse around corners with these as they allow the driver to see the curb. I tried practicing in my own car without them and repeatedly failed the reverse miserably. :o

    I've now bought a blind spot mirror for the left hand mirror of my own car, although, is it crazy to think that when I go to sit the driving test the examiner will look down on me for having this? I almost feel as if I'm cheating by having it!

    Also, would having the mirror eliminate the need for me to look over my shoulder when I am switching from a right hand to left hand lane, or when making a left hand turning? Why don't all cars have them (they're not expensive so cost can't be the issue)?

    No. No matter what additional devices you have attached to your car you must always check your blind spot for the test. The same is true, if your car has reversing cameras to help; you must also do all the checks you would normally do anyway.

    I presume the blindspot mirror are those round convex mirrors you stick on to your wing mirrors? My car has them already without the need to stick anything on; but to be honest, I would just think they look bad having them on. That being said, my car is my pride and joy, so anything stuck on to it gets immediately removed!

    You could try adjusting your kerbside mirror down for the duration of the reverse around the corner, so you can see the kerb. I did this for my test and I wasn't marked down for it. Just remember to re-adjust before you move off again.
