Thevenin's theorem, is Wikipedia correct?

Just wondering if this example done out on wikipedia is done correctly because my lecturer did them a different way which gives wildly different answers?

Thanks for your support, this is the way that I thought was correct. Unfortunately I couldn't begin to describe the other way as it makes ZERO sense to me.:rolleyes:
