I don't care if you think I'm cruel because I am right ;)

Right you are, sir. Though I fail to see how you find a psychological disorder that has driven many people to their deaths and ruined countless families to be a source of amusement for you.

This is a thread for unpopular opinions, controversial opinions. Not admissions of your own idiocy.

You sound like a thoroughly horrible person

I also have a general distaste for anorexic people. I love to tell them that they are fat, just to see their faces because I can't take the disease seriously. I know that it's mean, but I just can't help myself. The same applies to people displaying self-harm scars etc.

Well I thought it was amusing. That's my unpopular opinion. :)

+1. It's actually the mental illness with the highest suicide risk.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

I think "The Cable Guy" was a good movie.

The thread is called "unpopular opinions", so I can voice my distaste for a "mental illness" I consider nothing but bulls**t. Does the same sympathy apply to binge eaters/morbidly obese people who also kill themselves with their eating disorders?

This whole "eating disorder" nonsense is one of those "first world" problems that occupies the minds of some disorientated and insecure people who should just grow a spine.

You are entitled to your opinions.. That's fine. But you've got no right in being a scumbag.

Opinions and actions are completely different.

Oh sure, but be prepared for rebuttal.
This whole "eating disorder" nonsense is one of those "first world" problems that occupies the minds of some disorientated and insecure people who should just grow a spine.
While I would debate self harm, in particular cutting as a more recent meme as much as a long standing part of the human condition, I'd be significantly less sure about anorexia as a "first world problem". Yes there can be an element of meme and cultural triggers to it at times, however it is a very serious illness, with a high mortality rate and like I said the highest risk for suicide among mental illnesses. It also has clear symptoms and progression, unlike some mental disorders.

Maybe you're talking about those people who claim an "eating disorder" for attention etc? I'm sure they exist alright. IMHO they certainly exist for other mental illnesses so not beyond the realms alright. My unpopular opinion would be that a goodly chunk of those who label themselves as "depressed" do so - at first at least - to "fit in" with the meme*. I say at first because through a kind of self administered CBT they may well end up in a depressed mindset. Also IMHO it's diagnosed and more to the point treated medically more than it should be. A hint of the overprescription of antibiotics in the past and this may come back to haunt us down the line the way antibiotics have.
You are entitled to your opinions.. That's fine. But you've got no right in being a scumbag.

Well to be fair AbG they are on topic, unlike the "the x factor/glee/etc is shíte" type opinions, which would be anything but unpopular.

*and it is quite the meme. People can often say "we don't talk about it enough as a society", yet it's rare a week, or day goes by without something about depression coming up in some arm of the media or other. We've never talked about its so much as a society. This is generally a bloody good thing as it helps to remove any daft stigma attached, but it may also IMHO increase the likelihood of believing they have it in some. It's hard to say which is the lesser of the two evils(I'd still back talking about it myself). Plus although we've never talked about so much as a society, we've never had so many treatments, both medical and others, we've never had so many avenues to explore those treatment options, yet the rates are going up, pretty significantly too. It's kinda odd. Yes people who wouldn't have been spotted in the past are being spotted more, but that doesn't seem to explain the overall high rates.

I find the naive acceptance of a lot of ideas disturbing often without recognising the money angle .....".and there's a book coming out in a few days and will be available if you have that problem......" How to books ! Does it take 200 + pages every time ?

I don't find Jeremy Clarkson's "ooh I don't give a sh1t and I'll just say it how it is and watch as I blow up this car for almost no reason - I'm so mad " shtick remotely amusing or emtertaining.

I just think he's a loud, obnoxious child.

Why is Top Gear so popular?!?!?!

Ah yea, I think he's entitled to his opinions and they're valid.. I have a problem with bullying though which he freely admitted to as if it was acceptable because it was based on his personal opinions.

    I agree. Horrible stuff.

My unpopular opinion is that there should be an IQ test to pass before you're allowed to access the internet. I can think of a few people who'd still be reading The Sun.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 394 ✭✭RaRaRasputin

Yeah call me names because you can't argue differently!
I guess I am a bully then, but it's worth it. Once you tell them that they should really lose some pounds they avoid the "oh i'm so fat" talk in your presence, which is always the same stuff anyway.

At least you've arrived at some level of self-awareness. Well done you.

I'd still rather stick my tongue in a badgers hoop than spend much more time talking to you. Don't you have a tabloid to read or something ?

my unpopular opinion is that all males should get a vasectomy at birth.... then as an adult you must first pass an IQ test before you can have it reversed to have kids.

it would sort out alot of the world's problems

Good idea, but an IQ test merely shows how good you are at IQ tests.

That would rule out a hell of a lot of otherwise very capable, potential fathers who would be great with their kids. Maybe an EQ test or personality assesment of some sort?

Basically a test to see whether you're a selfish/abusive/violent kunt or not. (that goes for women too btw)
Something an IQ test is incapable of determining.

I think problems surrounding gender relations are mostly because of some women.

And I think many problems surrounding gender relations have to do with men too. Horses for courses, eh?

    Sucker.

An Irish NGO? Why are we providing aid to a country that has a space programme?
