Apparently they also tried using a dog in an alien costume for the younger version of the creature; there's test footage of it knocking about it & it looked utterly laughable.

    james cameron?

he's more at home with PARANHA II: FLYING KILLERS

    :rolleyes::D

i will admit though, the terminator wasn't half bad. Unlike it's
rank sequel and whatever he did since.

    :P

Huh? Not sure what point you're trying to make here except to try and shoehorn in some pointless elitism: Cameron is very very good at what he does as an entertainer, is something of a master technician, but nobody would ever claim his movies as high art - nor has he ever claimed them as such. Man knows how to make a good blockbuster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭indough

i would consider that an art itself. i mean we see on the other end of the scale just how bad they can be, the transformers movies for example

    Does he?

    I just didn't get Avatar.

Hope all those wishy washy smurfs get wiped out in the sequel.

    Human race forever.:)

Never said the man was a master scriptwriter, his characterization is often simplistic & 2-dimensional at best; but as poor as I thought Avatar was, as a spectacle and example of how to do an Action-Blockbuster right Cameron still delivers.

such an atmospheric opening, Horner reuses a lot of his own (and other peoples) stuff but the opening to Aliens is fantastic

Imagine an Alien game where there's only one enemy, instead of hundreds of them. Perhaps it's outside the realm of what developers are capable of and what a demanding audience expect

WHo the **** came up with the AVP idea?

Old comics that were excellent and a couple of great PC games (plus the xenomorph head in predator 2).
Then bad filmmakers got hold of it

Alien Blu-Ray anthology is going for 10.99 in HMV at the moment for anyone interested. Had to indulge, if only to fulfill the morbid curiosity concerning Alien Resurrection this thread has provoked :/

You are going to love Shaquille O'Ripley.

Well that's the last time I let morbid curiosity get the better of me :pac: What appalling trash Alien Resurrection is. Wildly uneven tone and pacing. Misjudged performances all around (did that French fellow Dominic Pinon really have to be in it, Jeunet?). Weak central ideas, and a terrible new creature. And they straight up ruined Ripley. Wow.

That said I do see the Firefly DNA in there. Not just the crew, but the hyperstrength Ripley and a handful of other indicators too. Alas, it has none of the wit or strong characterisation of what was to come. Few of the crew stand out, and fewer still are likeable (you even want Ron Perlman to get chest bursted). A curio in that regard, maybe, but Whedon and Jeunet portray none of the skill or passion they regularly prove to have in excess.

Would have loved an Aliens film that showed the mining colony trying to defend itself with limited means, mining tools etc. Knowing that they were all going to die might have taken away from it though. Perhaps if it had been made before Aliens.

Looking forward the Prometheus, I can understand why they aren't making it an actually part of the franchise, seeing as everything after Aliens sucked.

the character I was even remotely interested in in Resurrection was Michael Wincott, because he's underrated and should be in more stuff, and because he was cool in his brief role. the rest sucks though.

Girlfriend just told me today she's never seen any of the Aliens movie...

.. perfect excuse to crack out the Quadrilogy on Blu-ray before Prometheus!

I didn't mind Alien 3 so much TBH. I was crushed as a young Fella because Hicks was my favourite movie character growing up and he wasn't even in it but its definitely good enough to watch.

I was the exact same, there was absolutely no need to kill him off !

10.99 ? is that the version with all the special features ? wow ... blurays have come down in price ....

to those who haven't seen the directors cut of Alien3 , I highly recommend it , watched it last week there - fantastic version - like a different film, there is a whole different story in there that the theatrical doesn't touch on.

No, it's a bare-bones version (4 discs with the 4 movies on each).. still a bargain though!

I'd rather spend the money on the one with the extras, its still one of, if not the best blu-ray set around

Agreed. If one Box Set didn't need a slightly cheaper vanilla set it's the Alien Anthology.

Something along the lines of Amnesia could work out pretty well, imo.
