This man has lived to a good age IMO; I didn't know he has had the title of creating teletext for the first time. His service to us IMO has done us well in times of long ago.

He is a credit to the BBC for doing that job and that is saying something. May he rest in peace.

In 1997 I tuned into Ceefax to see who won the European Cup final.

I'm still waiting for the page to load.

Ceefax was a much under-recognised form of bringing instant news and information to the masses.

Sad to see it go. Digital Text is slower and uglier by comparison.

Ceefax, the first the best, RTE are still catching up! Hard to believe that was the first port of call for football scores or the top 40. The kids know nothing of 8 bit graphics!

    Glad I read that.

    Never heard of the man.

Seems to be a bit of an unsung hero.

About 30 years ago I bought a TV with text. Living in London at the time ...... I often stayed up way too late at night reading the thousands of pages at my command. Also great for the up to date scores on Saturday ......... you didn't have to wait for James Alexander Gordon on BBC2 radio. And now, with the www ............ plus ca change!

Rest in peace Colm ......... East Fife 5 - Forfar 4
