How much space does a horse need and how much to rent that space?

    Hi,

    Ive been thinking of getting a horse for TOH and Ive no idea how much space they would need for grazing. Im surrounded by fields and will ask a farmer if he has a place that I can put the horse for grazing. Does anyone have any idea how much I should expect to pay for this land?

    Im in Callystown in Clogherhead, Co. Louth.

    the old saying was.....it takes 4 acres to feed a horse.....

    Horses are notoriously bad grazers, always dung in the same place, so they transfer all the soil nutrients to the one corner and leave the rest of the field poverty stricken, most farmers hate them. I got pestered by a neighbour to set her an acre five years ago and after saying no lots of times, I said 500euro/yr, and they took it, but the paddock is some mess now......celtic tiger years again!!!!!
