This will be the second manager hired by the new owners. First one didn't work out.

Had Royal Bank of Scotland/Purslow/Previous owners - whomever Sacked Rafa not done so, he'd probably still be our manager.

They sacked a hero in Boston and find themselves last in their division this year, a sport they actually have a clue about. The omens are good alright.

Someone should have gone to the Standard Chartered shareholders meeting on the 9th of May and asked them who the next manager might be, id say they have as much of a notion, in between openly questioning whether they made a bad decision joining up with LFC mind.

    The Martinez link is real!

    James Ducker ‏@DuckerTheTimes
Dave Whelan has confirmed to The Times that #LFC have asked for permission to speak to Roberto Martinez. "It is true," Whelan said.

    James Ducker ‏@DuckerTheTimes
Whelan: "I don’t know the exact timescales of when he is due to meet with the Liverpool owners but I will never stand in Roberto’s way.”#LFC

Really hope those Rodgers and Martinez stories aren't true, I fear the worst though

Rodgers story is from a dodgy 5Live radio presenter, Martinez story is from a direct quote from Dave Whelan to the Times though.

    :(

SURELY we are gonna aim higher than Rodgers and Martinez?! :(

Come back to me in 9 months and tell me giving KK one more year was a bad decision.

I like Martinez, i like Rogers.......as men and managers.

Is this the type of ambition you expected LFC to have?.

Top class stuff, let the good times roll.

Getting very strong indications that it won't be AVB for LFC. And, unfortunately, it won't be Rafa

I like Martinez and think he's a good manager but this would be quite the step up for him. Not sure he's ready for it yet.

I'd be an awful lot happier if the club were approaching some established managers like Klopp for example.

Seems understandable to me. If getting Martinez in as manager is a measure of FSG's ambition people have every right to be pissed. He's done nothing in football management. Crazy if it's true.

Jaysus, seems like a bad dream.

This is a huge gamble by the owners. It'll either be inspired or a complete disaster.

One thing I'll say about Martinez, his philosophy of the game is good.

    Deep breathes

He was on around £4million with 2 years left.
Payout will probably be in the order of £7-8million.

Rumours on the internets that he has turned down this payout and told them to "spend it on players".

I don't know much about Martinez, he did have a 50% win rate at Swansea over 126 games, were they in the championship at the time though?

Class act, heard he went to Spearings school today and knocked the sh*t out of a couple of class mates who had been giving him grief over recent results.

You know what, it wouldn't suprise me.

If it is Martinez, so be it. Give him a chance. Let him try to play his style - a clever, innovative and attacking style unlike the dour football Hodgson tried to bring. A style that will work better with the likes of Lucas, Suarez, Agger atc who are top class players as opposed to Maloney, McCarthy and Figueroa, who I all like but aren't quite the same standard as Pool's players. His 3-4-3 would remove the winger problem that has plagued Liverpool for years, because he wouldn't need them. He might bring Moses along with him too.

Don't write him off until he's actually shown up, if indeed he is. He did start Swansea off, don't forget that. He is young, he has the potential too create a dynasty, don't forget that's what FSG were looking for. He plays players based on form, not their name.

For your sake, Martinez' sake and this forum's sake, don't start proclaiming it's the end of the world or whatever if Martinez is appointed, until he is actually shown up. And if he's not shown up, then let the good times roll.

League One. Third tier of English football. Great.
