i would have gone for A Pardew(sp?) myself as the way he has Newcastle playing is very good strong attacking football. Things is would he leave the Toon Army to become a Reds Manager?

Pretty astute timing of the announcement on the day of the England squad, it will at least deflect some of the publicity. The Terry/Rio issue is strong enough to grab some of the Dalglish story.

Looking obvious from everything on the web from journos etc that Martinez is the man. Can't see why Pool fans are so negative. He's a well spoken, media friendly, young, hungry manager and Wigan played some breathtaking football in disposing of top teams to stay up. Everything Kenny isnt and didnt do. He'll do very very well indeed.

For two seasons in succession, his teams have spent the majority of the season looking hapless in terms of direction and purpose. There has been no progression at the club, they have fought two identical campaigns. He has won nothing.

He would be totally out of his depth at Liverpool and needs to demonstrate he can cut it at a club with higher expectations than Wigan before he would be an appropriate candidate for the Liverpool job.

Hodgson like idiocy is sure to ensue if we appoint him / Rogers / Lambert though. Can't wait to chew the scenary when this falls apart.

I hope not. We'd probably employ McLeish. *shudders*

Not a hope. Just got manager of the season and frankly he's a better chance of getting CL football with Newcastle than Liverpool.

I'd much rather see us get Newcastle's Chief Scout than Pardew.

Would you have said that if Newcastle finished in 10th?

To be honest, i'll cry if we don't get Fergie.

He's a proven manager, won plenty of titles, in with the FA.
We'd need to buy a good penalty taker, mind you, but we'd do fine.

He should be going cheap as well after a trophyless season.

    #FergieforLFC!

Sickened for Kenny, but understandable decision

Rafa, Deschamps, Villas Boas in order of preference.
Emery recently signed as Spartak Moscow manager so doubt he'll come. Can't see Bielsa or Guardiola becoming manager either
I don't even want to think about the likes of Rodgers, Martinez, Lambert or Pardew getting the job

Doubt Pardew would turn down Liverpool.

They are a bigger club and have more resources than Newcastle, the season gone by was just an anomaly imo.

This is a sad day for this club. Kenny should have got 1 more year. This kind of fast and loose behaviour with a manager makes us just like the rest of those clubs we detest.

What does it mean for the new manager? 4th or P45?, fu*k that, no soul left in the game.

Have no idea what to think, lets be honest no matter who they replace kenny with we arent gona be happy are we, we are a pesismtic bunch for good reasons, but kinda wish they gave kenny another year I think he deserved it(not because of this seasons form, but you know we are pool fans for life, and loyalty is alot)

Not a Liverpool fan but this is good for your club. He's past it and a lot of the nonsense last season e.g. Suarez should have been avoided. It will be interesting to see who ends up with the job now. For those of you hoping for Rafa, it's time for you to move on.

For those of you who ignore Rafa's qualities as a manager, it's time to cop on.

He was at Wigan, short of a cup run he was never going to win anything. In fact, "winning" for a club like Wigan is survival. So he won twice in a row. Even their fans celebrated it like a Cup win. If the likes of Norwich and Swansea kick on and consolidate next year in the Premier League, fair play to them, but for now all they have achieved is "doing a Blackpool". Martinez has exceeded that on a tight budget with a small fan-base.

Liverpool under Dalglish have "spent the majority of the season looking hapless in terms of direction and purpose". If you want to argue a cup win in the Mickey Mouse Cup, where almost all top sides play their reserve teams, as progression then so be it.

You're right though Martinez needs to prove himself at a club with higher expectations. If he gets the gig, then here's his chance. If he doesn't then perhaps he'll get the Villa job (with slightly higher expecations than Wigan).

To the people suggesting Rodgers - Swansea scored the 6th fewest goals in the league with their "beautiful" football. They pass it around nicely but they do not play attacking football.

That's due to the likes of Graham, Sinclair and Dyer not being high-end attacking players. The only one they had, Sigurdsson, flourished in the system.
    redzerdrog wrote: »
technically it isnt his style of football it is a philosophy implemented by the club

That is also Rodgers' personal style of football. It's a requirement of the Swansea manager job.

Some indication that Ian Ayre is gone aswell - utter ****ing lunacy. He's not a CEO but he's done great work for the club. Again, they better have someone lined up.
