Its brilliant if he makes the England squad-I dont understand how people would think otherwise. Playing at that level against top level opposition will be brilliant and all adds up to a 'more experienced' footballer.
Its what he needs, game time, confidence, trust. He had a very good last few games for us and I hope he brings that into next season - we might soon see the best of him....maybe.....probably....I hope.

It's just a selfish thing personally.

I'd love if no Liverpool players travelled to the Euro's tbh. You can be sure at least one will get injured.

Basically the players won't get a break this summer. Cast your memory back to Torres, two tournaments caught up with him eventually.

The coaching at Liverpool is better, the level ranges from as good to better, the only thing bigger is the damage to the psyche that ensues if you **** up.

There is seriously a ton of evidence that going to these sorts of tournaments hinders rather than helps your club performances.

I said it before on another thread that Carroll going to the Euros would be good for us. We're not talking about a player who's had a long hard season here. This could be great for his development and confidence, and motivation too. If he goes to the Euros and has a good experience that could drive him on in the future to make sure he stays in the set-up.

I fully agree. He's still relatively inexperienced, has less than 150 competitive matches to his name, compared to lets say Rooney who has over 400. He has very limited experience outside the English game. Playing in a tournament like this, seeing the planning and professionalism that goes into it, testing himself against new defenders, and playing with other strikers - all of that can do him no harm. And he is clearly a more effective player with fully fit, as we say in parts of this season and not last, so that bodes well for the start of next season...

You cannot be seriously suggesting that it would be better for Carroll, and therefore Liverpool, to not be picked for the Euro's?? Even if it is risky as you are suggesting, surely it's a risk worth taking. The potential positives far outweigh the potential negatives right now imo for Carroll.

Anyone any news on Lucas's injury, any chance of him being back for pre-season training.

He was back jogging there a few weeks ago... I think someone posted a link in here.

    He's walking anyway!

Really am a bit disappointed with what is happening at the club right now. Serious doubt's beginning to arise about FSG and their handling of the club. They sacked Comoli a month or two ago and have not replaced him. There doesn't seem to be any sort of leadership.

Now is a crucial time for the club moving forward regarding transfers etc. It doesn't seem we have any structure's in place and will surely fall behind again. We are supposed to be challenging for a top 4 position but the stark reality is regardless of management performance, as a club we are a miles behind our rivals (CFC, AFC, MUFC, MCFC) Take CFC who have already signed Marin & Kevin De Bruyne in Jan. United are sniffing around Dortmund's best & Kaitan, AFC have signed Podolski and here we are, our manager travelling to the US for a meeting with the owner's of the club. Dalglish is off on holiday's apparently today as well to make matter's worse.

No statement has been released by the owner's or the club backing the current management. Surely it has to be be back him or sack him.

The club changed hands over 18 months ago & despite making all the right noises here we are another summer of disarray. No word of developments on the a new stadium either which is absolutely crucial & should be the number one objective, especially when recent account figure's are taken into account.

Can someone, anyone please tell me why a stadium should be #1 on our list?

There is no point in us having a stadium with a 60k+ capacity if it wont be full. Which it wont if the on-pitch performances dont get a lot better.

Our active waiting list for season tickets alone would eat up pretty much the difference in capacity between Anfield and a 60k stadium

I would imagine the number of executive seats and boxes would sky rocket too.

Replacing him is a job for a director of football, a vacant position.

No press officer to handle statements when sacking him or hire his replacement.

Signing/selling players when you've a vacant DoF position is next to impossible as well.

    Then there's the backroom vacancies.

    Then there's the stadium.

Sure it looks like FSG are planning on ripping it up and starting again, possibly keeping Kenny and Steve, but the alternative is that they're doing the dirty work of clearing everyone out before selling the club. With the stadium development seemingly hitting a dead end, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Hopefully they have the funds for a stadium and squad investment this year, with the stadium being a priority IMO.

They would, and they would be filled game after game as well. I have no doubt that a modern stadium with a capacity of 55k to 65k would see a similar % of it's seats filled over the course of a season as Anfield does now.

He tweeted a while ago he was back in Brazil continuing his rehab. Nothing more than that though.

What potential positives? Can you list them and tie them into how it will result in an increased production from him in a Liverpool shirt next year?

Yeah, yeah - I've heard people say that playing in these tournaments is good for you before too. But, eh, there isn't any substance to those claims that I can see.

He starts the first 2 games in place of Rooney, scores in both. Keeps his place, England win the competition and he is top scorer. That would be very very good for us next season.

And it keep's him away from holidaying in Ibiza like last summer. I swear he was carrying the exertions of that trip for the first few months of the season!

Sounds like he'd be physically and mentally wrecked after it though to me. Can't see how that would be good for us. Everyone needs a holiday you know.

Keeps him busy, keeps him training(working on his touch, control, technique, fitness etc etc). If Carroll wasn't in the squad he'd have his feet up at the moment most likely doing none of those things. The longer this lads can keep doing those while his confidence is up and he's finally enjoying himself the better. Ideally he'd get two weeks holiday and then be back into training straight away.

    Oliver Kay ‏ @OliverKayTimes
England squad: Hart, Green, Ruddy, Baines, Cahill, Cole, Johnson, Lescott, Terry, Barry, Downing, Gerrard, Lampard, Oxlade-Chamberlain (con)
squad (contd): Parker, Walcott, Young, Carroll, Defoe, Rooney, Welbeck.

So Carroll's in. Better than him playing in the Olympics that's for sure. I hope he has a great tournament - anything to relieve the pressure of that £35m price tag.

Downing in - lol. Also shocked at Henderson being stand-in for Parker if he isn't fit.

After seeing the England squad it is reassuring to know that if Roy had still been in charge last summer we most likely would have signed Stewart Downing.
