    Carroll thanks Dalglish for support......
Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has thanked manager Kenny Dalglish for sticking by him during what he accepts has been a personally disappointing season.

In the last couple of months there has been a noticeable upturn in the 23-year-old's performances and for 35 minutes of his substitute appearance in Saturday's FA Cup final defeat and the 4-1 demolition of Chelsea on Tuesday he was arguably the Reds' best player.

His goal tally may not have reflected that, with just nine in 45 matches this season, but there are signs Carroll is starting to find the form which persuaded Dalglish to spend a club-record £35million on him.

The Reds boss has stoutly supported and defended the former Newcastle forward and that has been appreciated.

"Kenny has shown a lot of faith in me," Carroll said. "I haven't had the greatest season but he has stuck by me and defended me and encouraged me a lot. I am confident of doing well all the time and I think it is not just the last two games, I think I have played well in a few games. I have been enjoying my football and training.

"I am just confident every time I step on the pitch and I think it has shown in the last few games. I think I just needed a bit of a run. In training I have been doing well and all the lads have been enjoying it now. We have all been sticking together and playing well. I can't wait until next season."

    Cheers for that interesting read.

I'd imagine our income should increase with additional exposure in the US....hopefully

Would have thought Citys wages would be through the roof.

I know it's hard to tell from a youtube video but I think he would suit us perfect very nice link up play and his goal at 40 seconds is unreal!

Roberto Martinez would be a revelation

Was talking to a fella in the pub the last day, says he goes to 7+ matches every year and knows a guy who knows a guy....

Is convinced that Martinez will be our next manager :D

    Cant see it happening myself.

Should have asked him what that ITK thing about Henderson was...

Don't understand all the love for Martinez, there's a reason they are in a relegation battle every single year. If we are going down the road of inexperienced managers probably better off going with Rodgers or Lambert who've shown they can actually win games from August to March. Not that I actually want any of them though.

Of the three you have named I think Martinez is the standout favourite. He has managed to keep a struggling Wigan team in the premiership for 3 years now I think while having very little to spend and losing there better players (Valencia, N'Zogbia, Palacios).

That said I would agree, we need to aim bigger really.

Roberto Martinez is the definition of flavour of the month right now. There are many more attributes needed to be a really top class manager. The ability to play expansive football is only one of them.

The fact he pulled Wigan out of the fire at the right time has got him all the headlines. He never had Valencia or Palacios in his team either, both were sold the Summer he got the job. His Wigan stats read as follows

In charge for 126 games, Won 33, Drew 36, Lost 57. I'd take a closer look at the bigger picture before basing any judgement on the last 8 games of the season.

Its all about perception, if Wigan spend half the season in the top 10 and then slid into the relegation battle and finished on same points as they will this season, then his management looks alot less impressive.

When you finish strongly, a crap start is more or less forgotten. When you finish poorly, a great start is forgotten.

he was a w/banker that interfered in team matters and according to some sources he was allegedly trying to tell Rafa what way the team should play. Plus he had the ear of Gerrard and Carragher, was instrumental in sacking Rafa and replacing him with Hodgson, and had most of the leg work done on the Joe Cole deal. Purslow done a fair amount of damage in his time here it's little wonder why he was disposed of by FSG, when you count in the money to sack Rafa (£4m), sack Hodgson (£7.5m) and give Joe Cole a four year contract your looking in the region of £30m on Purslows decisions over a one month period in 2010.
Although Hodgson wasn't sacked by Purslow he was hired by him which is why I counted the cost of his sacking, I could also count in Konchesky, Jones and Poulsen aswell because Hodgson bought them.

It's odd that the Premier League teams don't usually give big appointments to managers from lower in the division. From what I can see every other league does it.

Martinez deserves a lot of credit though. He's been excellent at Wigan. They play great football and let's not forget he laid the foundations for Rogers at Swansea as well. My only problem with him getting the job is whether we'd be missing out on a few of the better players on our radar by not going for a more established manager given we don't have CL football to bring them in.

Martinez strikes me as someone who has great insight and knowledge of the game, but lacks character. He doesn't come across as someone that would deal with big egos well or be strong enough to make difficult decisions at big clubs.

I'd like to see him progress with a Fulham/Everton etc. before he's given a chance at a bigger club.

Damien Comolli is who the lads were talking about, not Purslow.
