Now that you mention it there is the carpark beside the curragower although that would probably be full.

Looking for good vantage point for the fireworks display saturday - ideas guys? Where are they actually launched from?

Sometimes from inside the Castle other times between the castle and city hall. Best vantage point for area near city hall is the green area off Clancy Strand, opposite what was Strand Barracks, the cut stone building. This isn't a great area for the castle as trees have been allowed grow on the river bank and block your view of the castle.

For some rugby matches they put up a marquee in that car park so that may not be an option for you tomorrow night.

At a guess I'd assume the marquee probably will be up. Thanks for the heads up Phog :)

Ronan, Ring the strand and say your a photographer, and ask for access to the balcony on the 6th floor. Best view you can get, and great for photos!

I think Phog should remember it, from the Photowalk a few years back.

    Also...

1507 photos from The Saw Doctors last night... Editing them.. NOT FUN!

Ah sick man you'll be editing them for a month!!

Is that a bedroom balcony or what?

Finished em, after 5 hours! :P

Its the balcony off a function room on the top floor. (Top floor of non-bedrooms). Looks right over the shannon, and best view of the castle, and its elevated, so you should get some really really cool stuff! And you'll have no obstructions. But remember, use a tri-pod & long exposure.

5 hours is good going!! Thats not the actual rooftop is it? Been up to the rooftop before! Some wind up there, need a weight on the tripod

Not the greatest pic in the world but the fireworks were alternating between the civic offices and then the castle. Pain in the stones!!!

Michael Martin on Upper Gerald Griffin Street has always done great portraits for our family.

On the other hand, Beata Pietras is very good for more informal shots.

would you know if we would need to book a bit in advance? not sure of a place/date yet

I'm sure that it wouldn't have to be too much in advance, But I'd say if your are thinking of booking her, just give her a ring to let her know that you are interested. So she knows that she'll be expecting a call with a date etc. :)
