Not worth the money, and lots of competition when qualified.

I dont think their worth the money if you can already drive a car. ;)

What I mean is I got my dad to teach me, drove around for a year, then had two lessons to correct me on the little mistakes, like not checking mirrors enough or at the correct time.

If you are a really nervous driver then I would guess there worth the money.
I would try get someone you know that you think is a safe driver to bring you out first though.

My driving instructor was doing the job 15+ years and he had more students than anyone else in my town and he told me that he made better money as a teacher. I laughed and said you're making £25 per hour 10 hours per day. He said that he does well to make an average of 40k per year and that's 60 hour weeks.

The new guys only have a few bookings per day so they are making a loss compared to working a minimum wage job.

OP , be wary of taking advice from anyone on the internet - there are a couple of Driving Schools that will promise you the sun , moon and stars and happily take money off you - at the end of which they will tell you that your not good enough and advise you to take more lessons ( with them of course ) - people have been fleeced and no job to show at the end of it.
There is a long-running thread on the Work and Jobs forum all about this scam.

Check out this thread from Work and Jobs forum - complaints all relate to the same driving school though that is not to say others aren't at it also.

Peoples attitudes to learning to drive in Ireland is still just to drive around with a learner permit ... there is little enforcement by the Guards to this, despite what they say ..so alot of people will just take the chance.
The EDT compulsory lessons has made little difference to this.
There are many many driving instructors out there struggling, you need to see whats available in your area and whether there is room or enough business for a new driving school.

Until the RSA and specifically the Gards enforce these new rules ... then nothing is going to change

When I was learning I found it very difficult to get an instructor who was willing to come out with me more than once a week or for more than an hour at a time.

Many of them advertised themselves as "driving schools" or "academies" when in fact it was just one guy with a sign on his car and if he went AWOL for a week or two I was left with no options.

I suppose the hours are antisocial as most people want weekends and evenings and the cost of fuel and insurance etc makes it hard to stay competitive.
However even when I had my own car I found it very difficult to find someone willing to sit in my car for an hour or two for 30-40 euro an hour which I thought was surprising.

Myself and a few of the driving instructor are keeping busy enough ourselves. But I would strongly advise against paying the big schools, big money. There is a far greater supply of driving instrucors, then there is a demand for lessons.
