spend more money on sex education and contraception as well, and stop catholic charities telling people condoms cause AIDS, its fcuking reprehensible. The amount of ignorance in Africa is staggering, and I dont mean ignorance as an insult, as in they simply dont know any better and let their leaders and the church tell them compeltely wrong information when it comes to sex.
Yeah ignorant as in lack of education - knowledge is power and too many people in Africa have too little. Not their fault of course. A really full-on education programme would solve so many issues, but implementing it is the problem.

Given the general topic being discussed now, that's quite an apt name.

I'd agree with saying feeding people in Africa is unsustainable. In fairness the Concern ads on TV should be looking for condoms rather than food.

Maybe we should start a Boards African Charity. Instead of spending money on food we buy a small African nation and do it up. Get that lad from Grand Designs in to do the commentary. Build some infrastructure, a port, get Ryanair doing cheap flights.

Politics forum could govern the country, Sport, arts & music forum for entertainment, After hours for coke and hookers management. It'd be a perfect slice of paradise. :D

The world is in no way overpopulated.

The only reason famine and drought exist is because people live in regions or that cannot support them or are controlled by inept governments.

England houses 50 million people on 130 square km of land. No droughts or famines there(Only hosepipe bans on certain days)

Ethiopia has 80 million people in a space 11 times larger than England. Droughts and famines galore!

There's plenty of room in this world for everyone to live either in well supplied cities or fertile, well maintained land. Only they don't, whether by choice, poverty, immigration and emigration laws etc.
Yeah that chestnut "Bringing a child into the world when it's already so over-populated... er, Ireland isn't. Parts of the world are, not "the world" as a whole. As you say, pockets are packed over capacity, others are deserted. There's an imbalance in global population distribution but whenever people say that the world is over-populated, I have visions in my mind of a Soylent Green-esque dystopia with hordes of people sleeping in stairwells etc.

It is selfish and arrogant to want to have your own (biological) child when the world is already overpopulated and there are so many existing children in need of love and protection.
Selfish and arrogant - um... ok. Pissed off that your mates are starting families and you feel left out?

Africa just seems like a cluster**** of a continent in general, especially the poverty ridden areas, I doubt most aid makes it to who its meant to go to its probably intercepted or stolen by militia and the like.

I think all the abortion threads should be moved to the parenting forum, and the religion ones to religion and spirituality forum, every day there is a new one in After Hours

If Europe and America deported all their illegals, the wests unemployment crisis would be solved.

If America deported all their illegals ireland would have an even higher unemployment rate... way higher i'd be willing to bet...

    They should be deported.

Theres 25,000 Irish illegals in America. The majority of “undocumented Irish” people living illegally in America come from Fermanagh and Tyrone. How many are actually Irish?

There are 30,000*official figure, probably higher) illegals in Ireland.

Add to that those on "language school visas", failed asylum seekers, those whom married an EU citizen to get permanent residence in Ireland, etc. etc.

Yep, it would knock a nice percentage off our unemployment rate.

Il look up the exact figures, if that wager still stands?

Those ''on language school visas'' are not entitled to welfare assistance so ARE NOT on the live register nor are the non E.U residents married to E.U citizens who intend to ever get irish citizenship because to get citizenship you have to be self sufficient during your whole time in ireland. And Im ''one of those people'' so I know what im talking about...

Therefore Im still willing to bet illegals being deported from america, the number of people on the live register in ireland would increase for sure...

If you went over to study english in America you wouldnt be able to work.

    Unlike in Ireland.

Thousands come here to "study english" when in reality they use it as a guise to circumvent immigration law and come here to work instead.

Ever wonder why so many non EU citizens are employed in shops, petrol stations and cafe across the country?

Disallow them from being able to work and tens of thousands of jobs would be freed up, thus reducing the number on the live register.

Shatters changed the rules on citizenship btw. Being in receipt of welfare does not disallow people from Irish citizenship.

Disallow them from being able to work and you will lose a lot of money that they spend here in fees alone. Did you know you MUST HAVE THREE THOUSAND EUROS ON YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WHEN COMING TO IRELAND AS A LANGUAGE SCHOOL STUDENT? Language school students are far from being charity cases as they have to have money previously for both fees and their bank account which is checked by immigration before their visa is given.

About the citizenship: Im working part time right now and would never risk my chance at a citizenship by claiming the other 2 or 3 days from social welfare. I suppose most people feel the same. I dont believe you can be on the dole and get citizenship as to get residency me and my husband had to prove we were self sufficient and even in the case I lost my job he could support both of us without help from the social. He had to prove that.

Not one **** could I give if language schools lose out on their fees. So, you admit, you came here to work, not study english. Sound.

The last government were starting to clamp down on the rampant abuse, but the bollix Shatter then took over the Justice ministry, so business as usual.

Listen I'm not saying he didn't exist, he may well have, but I think it's a bit silly to presume a government would allow one man complete control of military, police etc, that's just stuff of fantasy. More than likely if he did exist he was just a glorified cog in the machine.
