    Back then Hitler was the government. He was running the whole show and any politician or official that dared to stand up to him or question him would have had
    a very short life expectancy.
    Saddam Hussein employed similar tactics in Iraq to gain/hold power.
    Look up "the night of the long knives" for more info.
