Contract Law will sort it out, don't think many of us are qualified to comment on it.

From a personal perspective, I can understand the wishes to change coaching staff, and that the new Head Coach should have authority to choose his own from candidates, but if there are contracts signed then they should be kept to. A mistake could've been made in not having certain provisos in the contracts given to staff regarding these eventualities.

While we have no idea if this is relevant to Comyn's situation, the Protection of Employees (fixed-term work) Act requires that

"If an employee whose employment started after 14 July 2003 has been employed on 2 or more continuous fixed-term contracts, the total duration of those contracts may not exceed 4 years.
After this, if the employer wishes to renew the employee’s contract, it must be an open-ended contract unless there are objective grounds justifying the renewal of the contract for a fixed term only."

Just for background info, all depends on the nature of Comyn's role.

Anyhow, interesting to see Dineen come in at 13 for the weekend, I think he's usually a 12? He was ok in the B&I final. We badly need some centres to come through, hopefully he can make a case for himself.

Seems like he has a backs coach already lined up.

Either the Evening Echo's standards of writing are as low as ever, or Penney's oldest son will be facing a lengthy commute to whatever it is he does in New Zealand.
Penney will arrive in Munster in the middle to July with his wife and two youngest (15 & 17) children. The oldest (20) will remain in New Zealand and will base himself on the outskirts of Limerick.

Looks like the focus is primarily on developing talent in house to replace the senior players as they depart and his experience with underage teams was a major element of why he was hired.

Actually, I believe you're spot on re the underage development of players. There has been a steady flow of people coming up the ranks, but not making that final step to the full team/squad, hopefully Penney will put this right.

It's going to be an fascinating season, will be interesting to see if he promotes relatively unknown guys like Kilcoyne and Brian Hayes. I hope Butler has a massive preseason, we need him to be kicking down the door to get onto the team next season.

I know this is being discussed in the Irish thread but from a Munster pov it's interesting to see who's coming through.

Rael and Haugh are still u20 afaik. Hayes looked really good last week for Munster A and Ryan has gotten some Pro12 time this season.

I posted this squad in the 20s thread and il ask here as well, anyone know what the irish 20s team for tomorrow is?
Young enough team out for the development team with Haugh, Hircock, Dave O Connell and a few others all underage for u21s though obv all would have played a lot of AIL senior as well

Anybody know anything about the new players on the Munster development team? I saw Johnny Holland a few times and he looked good. Quinn-McDonagh had a good spell in England. He looks a decent playmaker although he is on the small side.

No idea, you'd think it wouldn't be beyond them to give out a teamsheet.

Forgot about Hircock, always surprised he's never featured for our senior team with out lack of centres.

It's looks to be quite a different team than the other two development sides we've put out so you wouldn't know how highly rated any of them are.

I guess for a good few of these players this is just a nice end of season "honour" for them, nice jersey to have though.

Real shades of England in 2004 about this. If we don't get next season right we could be in big trouble, at least players are starting to come through now. The injury profile of the team over the last few years has beggared belief tbh.

Once Munster aren't in the final he finds it hard to care, the original typed sheet he handed in was soaked from tears.

Anyhow, it's going to be a massive challenge to get over these injuries and retirements but it's going to be exciting too. If we get it right we should be building a new top level team, if we don't we could enter a Scarlets-esque slump.

Boggles the mind. Pity for him, flashes of brilliance at times, but why was he offered a 2 year central contract?

Read somewhere recently that it was a 2 year contract with the 1st year with the IRFU and the 2nd with Munster.

Because at his best he's still a damn good player and you can't always predict how injuries will play out.

Yes but that shouldn't automatically equate to a central contract. You can say the same of D'Arcy and he shouldn't have been given a central contract.

I think it depends on the number of contracts given out out per position, tbh. He wouldn't be ahead of the three six nations starters for them but after that there is a drop off in quality.

The dropoff from D'Arcy is far more extreme, and I would argue the depth in the backrow is superior to almost any other area.

The difference is that D'Arcy is currently a first choice player, whereas Leamy wouldn't necessarily make the bench even if fully fit.

Agreed. Even if our first choice starting and benching backrowers got injured, there's still a host of backrowers that would be slotted in there ahead of Leamy.

Edit: By 'our' I mean Ireland.
