So there would be matches like Munster vs Leinster in the ITM cup?

Has gotten some bad knocks this season. He needs to add more power to his game but that could be said of every Munster young gun at the minute. He's done ok this season but too early to say if he'll ever be first choice (which in it's own way says a lot, POM was clearly going to be first choice at some position or other within a matter of time).

Tbf though, Munster have been all over the place this season, in part due to injuries, that it's bordering unfair to judge any of the guys trying to break into the team.

Just reading in The Times that ROG and Earls are out of this weekends game. They still haven't got over the injuries they picked up in the HEC QF.

You'd wonder if both were even fit for that game.

Frankly, I'm ****ing sick of Ireland injuring Earls, he's played very little for Munster this season (and possibly last season too).

A lot will depend on Rob Penney I think. He's effectively going to have to rebuild our backrow now we've no prospect of ever seeing Wallace again and Leamy might be forced to retire too.

Of all our prospects or current players, only POM, the backrower who gets concussed every game, is good enough. Coughlan is an honest pro but that's all and DOCv2.0, Butler, TOD, Holland etc are unproven (at best).

Was he not fit for the Leinster game the week before the HEC QF and wasn't the other Leinster game at the start of the season where he picked up his first injury of the season?

We'll never know but Earls didn't look right against Leinster. Nor for that matter did Varley who was continually getting treatment. Has he featured much since the quarter final?

Given the rate of injuries, I wonder did we mess up our physical training somewhere a la RWC 2007?

He got treatment and hobbled off at the end of the first half against Leinster, was surprised to see he come back on but eventually he was subbed off, iirc. Might be that he got a bang in the game but his season has been a write off from a Munster perspective.

That being said, I can't wait to see him with proper backs coaching. His passing has really improved this season, actually giving him useable ball would be nice.

He was always likely to lose his place to Sherry eventually but I'd say there might be more to it. If reports on planet rugby about Cronin are true then both could end up touring with Ireland this summer.

the experience would do them good, although i dont feel their up to an international standard, think carr would be a great addition to munster if they could get him imo

At the risk of being mean to Carr he's just an older version of Zebo, great going forward but prone to getting lost on the pitch and defensively suspect. If Schmidt can't improve him I doubt whoever we get in as backs coach could do any better.

In Jones, Zebo, Earls, and O'Dea we've a few guys with decent pace, what we need is a backs coach who can use them.

ya thinking like that your right, but keatly has to be first choice fh from the begining of next season,by keeping o gara it is only delaying the rebuilding of the backline

It'll be interesting to see what Penney does with O'Gara. He's on the way out but he's still a massive player in the squad, and Keatley is still very inconsistent. It's completely unpredictable I think. All eyes on JJ Hanrahan I guess.

Reported in d'paper that backs coach Holland is not being retained. Dont like being mean, but thank Christ ;)
A day after announcing Munster got their man, in the imposing shape of 48-year-old Penney, subject to a work permit and following the conclusion of his tenure as New Zealand U20 coach at the Junior World Championships in South Africa next month, Fitzgerald confirmed the exits at the end of this season of team manager Shaun Payne and backs coach Jason Holland.

South African Payne, a Heineken Cup winner with Munster in 2006, is leaving to pursue business interests while two-time European runner-up Holland will not have his contract renewed this summer.

Bit of a longer article here http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/munster-coach-wins-injunction-to-prevent-dismissal-192730.html
It's a strange one alright, but surely everyone in the backroom staff would be employed on a contract basis and not as a permanent employee? Seeing as he only came on board permanently in 2006 I can't see how he could be working on anything other than 2 or 3 year contracts?

Very unprofessionally handled from what I'm reading there.

    Munster: F Jones; J Murphy, I Dineen, L Mafi, S Zebo; I Keatley, C Murray; W du Preez, M Sherry, BJ Botha; M O'Driscoll, P O'Connell; D Ryan, T O'Donnell, P O'Mahony.
    Replacements: D Varley, D Kilcoyne, S Archer, D O'Callaghan, P Butler, T O'Leary, S Deasy, K Earls.

Good to see the likes of Dineen get game time on the back of decent appearances. I was under the impression Earls is injured, odd that he is on the bench if not 100% fit.
Also good to see Kilkoyne is seen as the back up LH over Horan.

Seems to me like Munster CEO Fitzgerald and his advisors have chanced there arm on this one without actually going through the correct protocols in releasing him properly.

Contract Law will sort it out, don't think many of us are qualified to comment on it.

From a personal perspective, I can understand the wishes to change coaching staff, and that the new Head Coach should have authority to choose his own from candidates, but if there are contracts signed then they should be kept to. A mistake could've been made in not having certain provisos in the contracts given to staff regarding these eventualities.

You never really know without seeing the various contracts etc. Is it an ex parte injuction?
