I just got in the UPC 100MB Broadband 5 days ago here in Limerick
and I am very happy with it so far, I am getting full speed with it day & night.

Actual download speed is a bit higher than what speedtest.net shows
Tested using UPC or digiweb speedtest or downloading a linux iso from ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/

    Max actual download speed is 12.5mb/s = 100MB/s :D
    Max actual upload speed is 1.2mb/s = 9.6MB/s :D

    1. Run the test
    2. Select "Share this Result"
    3. You have a choice of URL or forum.
    4. To display the graphic like here, select forum. If sending the result by e-mail, select URL i guess.
    5. Click Copy
    6. Paste it in to your post

This is from NUI Maynooth. The firewall won''t let me do a ping test.

Just back in Ỉreland from my travels, Eircom home line down and no ẻircom response til Tue, decided to use my o2 mobile b/band and am shocked by speed tést résult for o2 - when eircom fixed will check speed test and then móst likely junk Eircom and o2 for UPC IF they can prove my area will get hi-speed (maybe UPC have to use Eircom tech ?)

UPC use their own cable lines, they've nothing to do with eircom, I think Bray is the only place in Wicklow were UPC is available, but i'm not 100% sure about that. If you can get UPC, go for it.. best broadband out there at the moment.

UPC 25 meg package, but more importantly a 500GB cap. The kids were going over the crappy Vodafone 36GB cap just watching Youtube alone.

Switched to UPC today. Eircom are a joke in comparison.

You're in Cork... you'll probably do better if you use the Cork Speedtest server.

Amazing what a being few km's more down the N11 does !!!

Just wondering , for anyone in the know. Does the fiberoptic HAVE to be underground, or do number of subscribers count - reason being, when I was in Vietnam ALL the phone/electric wires appeared to be overground, but they also have a population density of 668/sq mi v's Ireland's 190/sq mi so maybe it's not economical for fiberoptic suppliers to operate in Ireland

And a few miles further down the N11, this happens:

I don't think fibre needs to be underground, I think the ESB have some of it running along their overhead wires.

the population density for Arklow is ~950/km^2, for Wicklow Town it's supposedly around 1025/km^2.

Population density is not the issue.
