    2) Flexitime gives staff flexibility to vary their starting and finishing times, depending on the needs of their section. Staff must be in work during the core times of 10.00am - 12.30pm and 2.30pm – 4.00 pm. A person may start work between 8.00am and 10.00am and finish between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. Staff may build up hours during a four week flexi period which can be taken as leave in the next flexi period.

    great, isn't it piggy

So let me get this right, you are claiming they work up 2 hours per month but get a full day off in return ?

Did you deny its existence when you worked in the private sector?

I have family in the public sector

    Always home by 1630

and if they stay later than 4, once a week, for half an hour, they get a flexi day, every month

    this annoys me!
Full time, 830, vec & finance

So just to clarify they work 7.5 hours a day and get a full day off once a month for just 2 hours extra work( quadruple pay in other words).

Go on,come clean, your making this up as you go along, aren't you ?

    3) Term Time allows staff to take 4, 8, 10 or 13 weeks unpaid leave between June and August, with the agreement of their manager and HR (Human Resources), in order to match their working arrangements to their children's summer holidays. To be eligible, a member of staff must have a child or children up to 18 years of age, be acting in loco parentis, or be the primary carer for a person with a disability who needs care on a continuing or frequent basis.:D

Days off because your children are on holiday, nice:cool:

    Not a perk?

Unpaid. hardly a perk. Anyone can take it now, you don't have to have children. it's saving the country money in wages.

For working up how many extra hours, are you still trying to claim its 2 hours a month to get one day off ?

Just the public sectors way of reducing the paybill by one quarter.
    I thought you'd be delighted:)

Case re: Flexi time before the labour courts 2011, the unions arguments are very valid

There are almost 1,900 staff in the Council on flexi-time. They are allowed to take one flexi day every four weeks, i.e. 13 days per annum, over and above annual leave. However, staff in Motor Tax (178) can take an additional half day flexi leave every four weeks. This arrangement has been in place for over 20 years and the reason was for manning the strong-room at lunchtime as at that time the Council did not open to the public at lunchtime. In 2001, as a result of Better Local Government (BLG), flexi time for all staff was enhanced in exchange for extended opening hours, including lunchtime, but staff in Motor Tax retained the additional half day every 4 weeks. The Council considers this an outmoded work practice and wishes to abolish it under the Croke Park Agreement (the practice was eliminated from 1st January, 2011, but the Union wishes to have it re-introduced).

The dispute was referred to the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) and a conciliation conference took place. As the parties did not reach agreement, the dispute was referred to the Labour Court on the 24th May, 2011, in accordance with Section 26(1) of the Industrial Relations Act, 1990. A Labour Court hearing took place on the 16th August, 2011

I get days off at Christmas etc. that are not annual leave or public holidays yes.

Now, back to the question you have been trying to avoid ;) :

For working up how many extra hours, are you still trying to claim its 2 hours a month to get one day off ?

You should be happy so many in your famaily are employed by the PS then.
They probably enjoy winding you up because of your envy, begrudgery and complaints about them. I don't blame them.

The working day for workers in the Civil/Public service who have flexi time (not all do) is 6 hours and 57 minutes. You need to work up an extra 6 hours and 57 minutes if you want a day off the following month. You can work up a maximum of 11 hours and 30 minutes, so that would get you 1 and a half days off plus an extra hour to add to your clock for the following month.
