JSA claimed, but on reduced rate.... advice sought

Hello,

I made a claim for JSA a number of weeks ago after I left my job. Received in the post yesterday a letter advising me that my claim was successful and I would be backdated. However, my partner is on JSB and my rate is only €124.80.

Should this be the case? I am, in effect, receiving the amount of a qualified adult, despite claiming separately.

Yes this is correct. JA is means tested. I assume your partner is getting full rate JB of 188.

The maximum you can receive between both of you is the full rate plus the qualified adult rate.

However, if you are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance and your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant is getting of one of the social welfare payments listed below, the total amount paid to you as a couple cannot exceed the maximum amount paid to one person (including adult and child dependants) on one social welfare payment.
