eMachines e728 - windows issue or hardware?

My wife uses this laptop. Its 1.5 - 2 years old. She is having a problem for months now. Sometime it will boot up fine but regularly it will stall loading up, it will show windows logo forever and then eventually as in 15 mins to 2 hours decide to load up to the desktop and work OK.

It also may bring itself to PC self repair to do this, run the repair for again hours and be OK for a while.

I have tried the repair option many times, reinstalled Windows 7 keeping files in c:/windows/user.old and same issues. and last week did a full reinstsll of Windows 7 Home Premium. I backed up all her files and went with the option that deleted everything and started blank. Seemed to be running great but she told me on 2nd day happened again.

What could it be?
