Rent supplement cheque

    Hi we got our rent supplement in the form of a cheque today. Our last apt we rented we received our rent in our bank acc.
    Does anyone know where we can cash this type of cheque. It has dept of social protection on it and bank of Ireland


    Any advice appreciated.

    You will likely have to run it through a bank account. Very few places are accepting cheques these days.

    the post office will cash it

    Post office generally chases cheques from the dept of social protection

    CAn I claim rent relief or anything ? ive been only renting since July 2011?

    If you mean a tax credit, I think not, it only applies to people who were renting before 2010 or so.

    Tax years 2011 to 2017 inclusive

    Credit for rent paid will be withdrawn on a phased basis over the next 7 years. To see the maximum amount of the credit that will be due, see Leaflet IT 1.

    The credit for the years 2011 onwards applies to individuals who were renting a propety on 7 December 2010. No credit is due to individuals who began renting after 7 December 2010.
