Cycling Grand Canal - Any info

Myself and a few mates are cycling the Grand Canal, from Ringsend to Shannon Harbour next week. If anyone on here has done it before, any info re extent of tow-paths actually there; much cross country trekking involved; hoping 2 leisurly days; even the anorak thing of interesting spots to stop at. These are construction nerds so will have great interest in the locks and how they were made etc etc.

Any help/tips/info welcome, so as I can look that bit more educated than the rest of them:D:D:D

Go to cycling forum main page type in "search this forum" at the top right of the sceen and type in "grand canal".
