Both sides have a responsibility here. But he still has to take responsibility for his own greed. He took a gamble with his own money and lost and now he has to face the consequences of that. Why should he be able to stay in his house that is currently way beyond his means? Because the banks are corrupt? Are we all queuing up for 2m euro houses? Nobody wants to see anyone homeless, but the bailiffs did not just arrive at his door out of the blue, he has had 2 years to sort himself out and he chose not to.

don't be under any illusion that gilmore or his fat cats are in government for the people. they are in there to get their fat pensions - once they are secure they will waddle off and live the lifestyle they always wanted, not giving a toss about the people they are supposed to represent.

as a side note, gilmore, every time I see him seems to be more and more bloated - he is beginning to resemble a giant chipmunk

I wouldnt be surprised if there is a PR agency involved here somewhere.

They are very smart business people and they can trick most if Irish. If anyone can just take a look into internet will easily find how big money and connections they have. But that's the way most of private fortunes were build:

Anyone got a link for Gilmore agreeing to meet with them? Embarrassing if true. It'll backfire on him once it emerges that most of the sympathy for this couple is media manufactured, and the facts come out about them.

Banks are people and this spending like wild mentality was rampant through all levels of society. Of course, they were lending. Their bonuses depended on it. They were gambling, customers were gambling.

Anglo are a bunch of gangsters who are majorily responsible for our financial situation.

The greed of bankers was a factor in all of this. Equally, so too was the greed of borrowers.

This guy and others like him demonstrate a stunning lack of awarenness in the contribution of their own actions in bringing about the disaster that has been visited in the people of this country.

    He was an accountant ffs.

So am I, and I'm probably one of the few accountants who sat back with a bag of popcorn watching a few other financial geniuses make complete arseholes of themselves, whilst bragging about their international property portfolios. At least two of them went down for €80 million apiece when everything fell apart, and are now keeping a low profile.

Kenny didn't even meet with them afaik. They went to an industrial estate where he was pretending to have something to do with some new jobs being created and approached him afterwards.

I hope Gilmore falls flat on his gee over this.

He's a "see which way the political wind is blowing and follow it" spineless sh*te-hawk.

"Minister Gilmore said that he will make contact with the couple to see what can be done."

If he helps them out, there will be murder!

I can't understand how anyone would have sympathy for them ?
It's not their house ? The bank owns the house (meaning the tax payer).

They were living Rent free for two years. Are you and I supposed to pick up the bill for them while they continue to live in the house ?

    Talk about complete nonsense.

Give them a nice house in a ghost estate that they can rent from the Government.

He cannot help them out, he is just saying what he thinks is expected of him. He will meet them, listen and walk away laughing at them.

2 years to get their act together.

Took a risk, now it's time to pay back.

Doesn't matter about the self righteous wailing on camera.

    Pay your debts.

There was some woman on newstalk today bleating on about straw men 'probably' happy because they were entrepreneurs. No doubt a FF'er.

As long as not one single head has rolled, no bankers and politicians are in jail because of this massive fraud on the Irish people, I will not side against anybody being evicted from their home by the very same people who committed the fraud.

Hmmm... The Indo splashed on it today, with a half page more on p3. Their reporter and photographer were there before the eviction began, according to the reporter herself. The tone of the coverage is very emotive, "women crying", "silver haired pensioners", "putting two people out of their home","gardai looked on, unable to intervene".

It only rates p4 briefs in the Irish Times and the Examiner...

The media are only interseted because this story is getting so much coverage.

The moment everyone realises that these gob****es got what was coming to them and interest wanes, there will be no more media circus.

The media couldn't give a sh*t about this couple... but as long as people are tuning in to radio stations and buying newpapers on them, they will keep getting publicity.

Such a total farce. I bet the couple seriously think the media big guns care about them. It will only serve to fuel their egos more....

But isn't that just ignoring rationale out of spite?

These people took out a loan they can't afford. It doesn't matter who the took it from.

it's all abit shylock imo. It's all the lenders fault. Nothing this poor millionaire cuold have done about taking loans he can't pay back.

Its actually a 'non home ownership' tax. A tax levied on those who rent or are over 18 but live at home and so are not contributing via house hold charge, water rates, septic tank rates etc.
