Commercial Vehicle Test Pass Statement -- how long are they valid for?

So, I have a test pass statement since May 2011. Long story short is the van was "off-the-road" almost immediately after and I never bothered getting the Certificate of Roadworthiness. But now I want to re-tax it, only for three months. I'd rather not bother getting another test done just to get the cert, just so I can tax it.

If I walk into the the Motor Tax office, looking for the cert, with my test pass from May 2011, what should I expect?

Should they accept it and give me a cert valid from May 2011 to May 2012, or...?

They'll give you a certificate of roadworthiness that corresponds with the date on the doe cert. It'll expire in may
