I'm refraining from slagging him off, in fear...

I don't think he is finished... He was scoring right up until the move. I think if we had him and Suarez playing together now it would be a very effective partnership.

I don't think we will ever see the old Torres again. His acceleration and pace are gone which were vital.

If Carroll keeps improving, he will have far more to offer than Torres in a year or two IMO.

    Torres or Carroll lads?

With the next 2-3 years in mind.
    Torres for me.

    He's also 28.

Could well be gone from Chelsea in the summer, back to Spain I'd say.

Don't want him back at all. 50m was a fantastic piece of business tbh.

Sorry, but I thought it was Carroll +£15m?

This. It's the one thing he had in spades that is gone forever imo, pace. The lack of it plus the lack of confidence makes him look average instead of the fearsome player he once was. Honestly i'm happy he's gone because we would be looking at a 20m sell on price now instead of the ransom we recieved from the Russian.

It is possible that his injuries have taken their toll on him but it would be a huge coincidence that they did so at the same time as his move.

As for Carroll I think what he offers is very limited, might do a job in some premier league games but could you imagine us progressing in the CL with him as our main striker?

I'd imagine if we qualified for the CL we'd be able to attract a top notch striker tbf.

No not in the CL but I don't think Torres would either.

I'd imagine we'll sign another striker to compete with Carroll.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibilty that Dalglish had a look at him and thought whatever it was he had at one stage had gone. I know he was scoring goals still but he had a long run of bad injuries that could have ruined him going forward. Not that Kenny or the LFC medical team would ever get praise for spotting that if true.

I'd like to see us move Gerrard out in the right next season. He would provide decent service for Carroll. We don't use the wings near enough.

And Downing could provide a threat on the left.

Then a box to box midfielder along side Lucas and that would sort alot. Some one similiar to Essien, Ramires, Yaya Toure.

And we need to sign someone with pace on the wings and a new striker.

Torres is a £10m player now.

Torres every day of the week, even if we could get him to half of what he was when with us he'd be worth it.

Money will attract a top class striker regardless of CL for a season or two. Footballers at the end of the day are all more or less no different than the ordinary Joe.

That said i don't see our current owners taking that risk without european cup football so Darren Bent it is.:D

IBTLiverpool sign Bent pic...I think we could still get a decent striker with some proper scouting, I am sure people are sick hearing of Newcastle at this stage but look how they have done. There are a lot more decent players outside the CL than in it and we shud be targeting them.

I'll never forget the day I heard on the radio that it had been reported that torres had requested Liverpool to listen to Chelsea's offer for him.

    I was dumbfounded.....couldnt believe it.

But in hindsight now that was one great piece of buisness as I dont think he will ever recapture his LFC form no matter where he moves to or if he stays in London.

I actually think its quite sad to look at how he has turned out at Chelsea, his role now is more provider than goalscorer.Something I doubt he didnt ever envisage happening to himself at this stage in his career that along with getting dropped from the national team.

Glad its Chelsea, we are their bogey team after all and they still don't know class, despite all the money. 1 loss in 21 and Dalglish has never lost to them. No brainer if ever there was one.

Torres is the gorgeous ex who is just getting that bit fatter and getting more lines on her face every time you see her.

Carroll is! :D If he keeps scoring match winners I don't f*cking care!

Has Torres even scored an important goal for Chelsea, yet?
I really dont want that one to be in Wembley against Liverpool.

And as for Torres v Carroll, i would still take Torres. I look back at nearly every game this season and see chances that he would have put away even with diminished pace. Him and Suarez in the same team would have been exciting but not going to happen now

I'd probably take Torres for this season and maybe next over Carroll.

But after that, Carroll should be coming into his prime and should be a far better option than Torres.

just to say, i'm feeling fúcking brilliant after Saturday.

another cup final, and a chance for more silverware.

after all the crap about him recently, some of it from me, he deserves a huge well done for getting us to another final.

    thank you Kenny.

and well done Andy Carroll. a lot has been said about him, and a lot will continue to be, but a lesser man would've shirked getting into the positions he did yesterday after the couple of misses. it took balls to keep getting in there. a great winner, and i hope he remembers it for a long time.

and i hope it gets him a run of starts now.

It is such an massive assumption. Or even to assume his peak will be anything like Torres' peak or even Torres now.

I am not saying he'll be a world beater or anything just that he will be a better option than Torres in a year or two IMO.

I'm not sure if that's a reflection on how good Carroll will be or how bad Torres will be.

I don't think Carroll will improve much technically beyond his current ability but I'd expect him to improve quite a bit mentally and physically over that period.

I'd expect Torres to fairly worthless as regards transfer value in two years time where I'd expect Carroll to have a value in or around £15m.

I've a bad feeling about the sting in the tail from Torres. He can score against us at Anfield in a 2-1 Liverpool win if he wants, but hopefully won't score against us in either game. Scappy 1-0 wins in both will be good enough for me.

I wish he had never left though.

Couldn't care less about the league game as long as we beat them in the Final.

    Drenthe rumors gathering pace .

    What do people think ?

For me he is one of those players that will be a massive hit or a massive flop with no in between.

He like many others that didn't cut the mustard at Real will eventually show their true potential at another club (ala Snijder) or be a right flop and become a journey man .

Worth a punt at the right price and a definite upgrade on the likes of Adam.
