So have a bunch of avi music files from back in my windows days.

itunes won't play with them but its where i have most of my music so I'd prefer they were in there.

Not really sure what to do with them. Is there a way to convert them ?

    Any suggestions ?

Actually I must correct myself - they are wma files not avi files.

Audacity will allow you to export a file to mp3 but I am not sure of the quality, sounds fine to me though.
It takes around 10 seconds for a 3 minute song.

I am sure there is a better way to do this en masse though. Perhaps http://www.nch.com.au/switch/plus.html ?

Audacity is smaller and the quality is lower and you have to do it 1 by 1.

I use a free converter called Switch. I've tried a few different files through it and they all come out fine with the same level of sound quality. Also usually keeps the ID3 Tag data of the song so you won't lose the names. Might be handy for ya.

This works brilliantly thanks. Amazing it is free!

Yeah I searched online for a while and tried a few including some from the Mac App Store. All terrible, glitchy and some destroyed the sound quality. Switch is great and never let me down the last few weeks using it. Hopefully it stays that way :D

I've done a lot of shopping around for converters and Music Converter Pro was my favourite from the App Store for converting music files and video to music. I also downloaded Smart Converter Pro for videos and it's great too. They're not free but they're not glitchy, the batch conversion is smooth, it's fast and I've yet to find something I need that they can't do :D

This was one of the apps I tried to use. It wouldn't accept one or two of the formats I tried and wasn't converting them properly. E.g. other than a decrease in sound quality the songs wouldn't preview in Finder properly.
