I'm going to be in HK this summer and have been looking at things to do. It seems a lot of people cross the border to Shenzhen, China to go shopping, obtaining a special visa at the border.

Has anyone done this and is it worthwhile?

Easy to do by all accounts but Shenzhen isn't massively interesting. It's also one of the more higher income mainland cities so I don't think prices will be that much cheaper than Hong Kong. Haven't done a lot of shopping in either but I'd reckon stuff like branded electronics are cheaper in HK.

The trend is for mainlanders with a bit of coin to go shopping in HK these days, although I don't know what that tells you about relative prices.
