Hi, hope I can get some help here I'm selling an Alfa 156 1.6 with a 06 D plate, 90,000 km on the clock (approx 56000 miles). I dont want this to start an Alfa bashing thread (there are enough of them on here) as it really is a good car and apart from servicing never needed a thing done to it in the 2 years I have had it. Its a red Lusso spec (colour really suits the car) good spec, uprated stereo, no leather interior though, wont find fault with the condition, just nct'd but its the very last of the 156 model and i havent much to compare against as there are very few 06 for sale in Ireland. Would anyone like to advise on prices to advertise at? Would be great to get some of the wisdom here

When was the timing belt last done?

€4k on a good day I'd say, if it's had a fairly recent timing belt, has good tyres and there's no creaking or squeaking from the suspension, but you may need to be ready to go lower to get a sale. It's a tough one to gauge but any more and you're encroaching on GT/159 target prices.

I bought a 00 reg 156 1.8 from an independent dealer back at the end of 2005 (so around about the same age at the time) with the belt and variator done for €4.5k. While mine had slightly higher miles, I think about 70k at the time, the way the general market has gone and the 156 hasn't exactly increased in popularity (though I still have a soft spot for them), I can't see it making any more than €4k private. The only thing going for it is that there are less clean 156's to choose from now, plenty of battered and abused, but there's also less buyers looking for them. You'd have to get lucky with an enthusiast.

Sounds like a nice clean car. Stick it up on an enthusiast site as already mentioned. I like the face lifted 156's alot. I had 2 older 156's before.

As long as it has a reasonably recent timing belt change well then, I'd be putting it up for €4950 with the aim of accepting about €4.5k... Sounds like a minty motor, although leather would probably help with the sale. Best of luck :)

Thanks for the advice, everything that was meant to be done has been done, just dont have the car so also service history with me at the moment to comment on timing belt change, i'd be happy with 4500 to be honest. The type of car it is might be better suited to an enthusiast, alfas have a strong following in certain circles, they're the kind of car you really either want or stay well clear of. The fact that its the very last before the 159 came in might stand to me. Not desperate to sell just want to get 2 cars with the proceeds without any more outlay, or only a little if required, a 5 series e39 sport which i used to have (01/02) and absolutely loved for about 3 grand and a supermini (polo/yaris/corsa) of about the same age for the mrs with 1500, would make life a little easier on us.
