Hey, I was wondering if you're able to be punished if the car you bought and are driving home at the minute has no motor tax.
Would you be ticked off most of the times or not?

You are committing an offence by driving with no tax

The consequences would depend on the guard

You should be fine as you can only tax it once the change of ownership comes through and if used on the road you should be taxing it from the date of purchase. I have been spotted on quite a few occasions over the years in that situation, never had a problem.

The fine would go to the seller if its from a tax camera. But if the guards stopped you and asked your details then its up to them what happens.

Who would very rapidly ensure the authorities were aware of the change of ownership, so that the fine is directed to the new registered owner. You'd get the fine regardless.
