I can't see the point in going to the UK for a car unless you were getting a very good deal.
Heres a nice 08 in Ireland for under €11000 http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2870312
or a 07 with extremely low mileage http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3112591

I'd say the first you link to there is an import with duty still outstanding and no test on it, and is now an X. its just a tit
And the second is a petrol yoke.....

Ya I see what you mean, that second one is 2.0 petrol though and its diesel I'm really after. The first one is a nice car though. I suppose I'd limited my searches to just the Titanium X spec level so didn't see it. I'd rather stay away from 2007 cars because I'd say they'll be impossible to shift on in a few years with the higher tax when 2008 and 2009 cars start to filter down through the market.

Wow, didn't spot that petrol Mondeo. I hate adverts that don't state if the car is UK/Irish

Have you any experience of dealing with either of the above cars? I see in another thread that you're in the trade.

I'd go for the Mondeo, the S40 is a much smaller car.

Although the seats are more comfortable in the Volvo :/

Are they ya? Owned an S60 before and it was like driving a couch around.(the turning circle would be better with a couch though!)

Seats would be a big thing in fairness.

I'd love to but can't afford them in the diesel version. Absolutely lovely car though the S80.

There are two very good reasons for buying from the UK, ignoring the cost issue:

    - spec; much easier to find a car with a decent engine and plenty of gadgets fitted in the UK
    - maintenance; in the UK cars are something to be celebrated, not abused, they look after their cars so much better over there than here

Only downside is that a UK car will obviously have mph rather than kph clocks, but it's worth it to buy decent spec, properly maintained car rather than the poverty spec under maintained crap here!

That's not the only downside to a UK car. Salt can play havoc after a few years on a cars undercarriage. And while I agree regarding choice and service history, condition is not often as good as made out. And it is amazing how much of a cars history can go missing on the boat.

Do your homework and you can get a very good car at a good price too, but you need to go into importing with an open mind. Another plus is many warranties are three years as opposed to two in the UK (Ford and VAG cars).
