Just seen Mancini's interview on SSN ,he said he lost 2 or 3 important players, how many injuries have Utd had this season and still they are top of the league.

I heard the same line being bandied about by City fans yesterday, that they've missed Kompany at important times.

    Vidic. </argument>

Kompany was not fault for at least 1 of the goals.

A team like City who have invested so much into a squad should be well able to afford 2 or 3 injuries to important players; not saying they should have as good of players on the bench, but if you're going to spend that much money, buying a few cheaper plug-hole players is a must as well.

To be honest you've been saying the same thing all season despite Carrick being one of the best players we've had.
He has not been one of the best players we've had this season. Rooney, Valencia, Scholes, Welbeck, Rio, Evans, Vidic, Nani and Smalling have all been better at times. Plenty of those players have come in and out of the team more than Carrick, but that is because of better depth in the other positions and because of the various injuries. Carrick has defended well as usual and cruised along in possession against the majority of teams as usual and has been rubbish against teams that put him under pressure as usual.

Had he plated more in the CL i think we would have had a better chance of staying in the competition.
It's true that United probably went out of Europe because of not playing the strongest team, but that doesn't mean Carrick is a good CM at this level. The fact that he is a better CM than Anderson, Park, Rafael and Jones is not impressive.
    lordgoat wrote: »
Sure i can see his limits but as ever you fail to acknowledge what he does well and bring to the team. He's not as poor as you make out and is a vital part of our team

You can't see his limits. You can't see that he has a very poor first touch for a central midfielder at the top level. You think he passes the ball forward well to the strikers and other midfielders, but you fail to see that he needs too much time and space to do that and so makes life difficult for the rest of the team.

I acknowledge that he defends well. That is the only thing he does well for his position.

Every player in the eleven on the pitch is vital, even when they're limited players like Evra and Carrick. The only difference between himself and Evra is that Evra's flaws (shìt defending) are easy to appreciate and get exposed in every game whereas Carrick's flaws (poor technique on the ball) are more subtle and often don't get exposed.

Would i like someone better - sure, but as it stands there are alot worse players that need replacing before Michael Carrick.

The only worse player in the first team that needs replacing is Evra. The United squad has excellent depth all over the pitch. It's the first team that needs improving.

It's hilarious how much you whinge abour him actually.
The CM comes up for discussion a lot (not just from me) and in that discussion you can't avoid discussing the players we have there.

Carrick has a weak first touch and close control. First touch and close control are vital for a central midfielder. It's hilarious how people like yourself don't appreciate those two simple facts.

I disagree. I don't think he's a fantastic footballer and forgive the cliche but he does the simple things well and consistently. He doesnt give the ball away, brings other players into play well and his positional sense from a defensive point of view is very good. He's better than you think and is almost back to his best but he never was or never will be world class.

He needs to be cut some slack but people also need to realize he'll never be the scholes or Xavi or whoever that people seem to make comparisons to.

He has been one of our best players this season, I agree with Lordgoat there.

Now I have mixed views on some of your points on Carrick, but I think you have hit nail in head here with this comment.

Our next away will probably be white anyway. Given that blue and black are our other two colours, and we've got both of them in the current jersey.

Actually, I really like our current away. Did we ever win a Premiership or Champions League game in our "Bolton tribute" away shirt? I can't think of one off the top of my head.

He only does the simple things well when he's given time and space. He doesn't bring other players into play well at all. Good central midfielders have the skills to get away from markers and make space for themselves in tight situations. That drags the opposition midfielders out of position and so makes room for their teammates when they pass to them. Carrick doesn't have that skill at all. That's the problem with him needing so much space to turn on the ball and pick his forward passes.

He doesn't need to be a Scholes or Xavi, we need him to be a Busquets (without the crybaby antics), a Vidal, a Song or somebody like those. A player who can defend reliably but is decent on the ball. Scholes and Xavi are miles above decent on the ball, aren't so reliable defensively and so are completely different types of player.

And I'm not talking about replacing him in the first team with a world class defensive central midfielder, just a decent one for the level we expect to play at.

One question Pro F, and odd one but I'd be interest in your answer....

If Carrick never played this season and we had Fletcher and Scholes fit and playing from the start of the season until now, do you think we'd be better or worse off now?

I think we've only had 20 or 21 managers altogether!

    Pretty mad statistic.

This has been a fantastic weekend. Not that any of the teams below us matter(except City :P), but the whole Liverpool saga, Arsenal losing, City losing.

Just tie it all up tomorrow with a win.

18 full-time managers. Only one being from outside the UK, Frank O'Farrel.

    FYP.

Although it was as good as losing seeing as I thought City would win.

I think that jersey looks cool, possibly because I really like the Barca jersey. The colour is awful and reminds me of the putrid grey jersey posted a couple posts above but in red that jersey would be sweet!

That white/grey jersey is a decent looking jersey. It's a fake though. The @footballshirts have said it was their April fools.

I agree he has been one of our best players this season. He has really stepped up to the plate and for saying sentences like this I believe we don't have a chance at winning the Champions League anytime soon.
