Great that De Gea stepped up after a shaky spell & all the attention at the beginning. Being dropped every 2nd game or so probably didn't help at the time. Lindegaard seems to good to be a number 2 though, bit of a waste of his talent.

Lindegaard is probably the most motivated and enthusiastic 2nd keeper I've seen at Utd. Really hope he sticks around.

I had an argument with few bitter ****s who went on and on about how Webb is Pro United then made the list of decisions that favored United, then I countered with the decisions that went against us. I never thought it would outnumber so easily untill I made the list. (Few incidents maybe wrong, I mean not involving Webb. I haven't double check it).
Decisions for Us, (I'm including debatable once too just to make up numbers)
    1. Penalty for Berba against Liverpool. (FA Cup)
    2. Handball against Clichy, which he did touch with his hand. Just for the sake of it, will put it in For.
    3. Mascha held Valencia from outside the box but Valencia went down inside the box and Masch was still holding Valencia inside the box too.
    4. Penalty against Spurs
    5. Penalty against Chelsea (For Welbeck)
    6. Penalty not given against Blackburn

    Decisions against:
    1. Red Card for Ronaldo against City. (Score was 1-0 when he did)
    2. Ronaldo Goal disallowed against Chelsea, Rooney took quick corner.
    3. Palacious red card not given then Spurs went on to lead 2-0
    4. Adebayor scored with his hand in 2007-08. It was important game of the season.
    5. Red card not given to Arshavin this season. (When it happened score was either 1-0 or 0-0)
    6. Clear red not given to Ivanovic agaisnt Chelsea last season. Atleast he made 3 bookable offenses
    7. Clear penalty not given when Lampard blocked the shot with his hand.
    8. Cahill was not sent off for fouling Welbeck. Score was 0-0
    9. Clear penalty denied for Young. Score was 0-0.

To add to the list , Webb didn't show red to Balotelli who went on to score the winner against Spurs and he didn't give Penalty to Stoke.

How can he be Pro United when he has made so many decisions against us. Is it just some bitter **** started this and everyone followed him blindly?

It's funny the way I see it is with Amos looking decent enough for his age and it appearing Lindegaard is good enough to be a first choice keeper, this summer could be the perfect time to sell Lindegaard and make a nice profit on him? It's unlikely he will want to stay as second choice for too long... just a thought though!

Howard Webb isn't pro United or anti United. He is just a reasonably poor ref (in comparison to continental ones) who makes an awful lot of bad calls.

Is he pro Holland because De Jong kung fu kicked Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final and only got a yellow? No. It's because Webb is human and makes mistakes.

If he had the benefit of 20 replays with 20 different angles, I'm sure he'd get more decisions "right" in fans eyes. Then again, some people still can't agree even with the benefit of all those aids.

You could be winning tickets to a community shield match between city and liverpool, might be wise to leave the t-shirt at home in that case :)

The 19 instead of the IO in champions kind of worked, anything else looks stupid, except for 10 obviously but it's a bit late for that.
    Actually 70 would work........roll on number 70.

Looks like Bayern and Real Madrid will meet in the semi final of the champions league, its going to be some tie.

Both of these teams are a level above us at present, what additions do ye guys think would bring us to their level, I suppose 2 worldclass centre midfielders and we'd be close.

I am not going to mention Barcelona because they up an even higher level, the best team ever probably, its not impossible to beat them on a certain day if a team gets their tactics right like Inter did, but Barca were still a better team to Inter even though they lost to them

I hear that group of fans are trying to create a singing section at OT. Anyone hear about it? Presume it be in Stretford end

I hear that group of fans are trying to create a singing section at OT. Anyone hear about it? Presume it be in Stretford end

They are wanting a separate singing section at the other end of the ground so all the noise isn't just coming from one end (The Stretford End)

Story about it here on RedCafe. http://www.redcafe.net/f6/opportunity-improve-atmosphere-old-trafford-350992/
Subject to council approval and a trial against Aston Villa next month, away fans are being moved to tier three of the Sir Alex Ferguson stand. Not every United fan is in favour as away fans still contribute to the atmosphere, but the numbers of travelling supporters have declined season on season – Fulham bought a new low of 320 on Monday. United have thus decided that they would like home fans only at the East End of the stadium, the old Scoreboard End.

After much consultation, a group of fans have approached the club with a view to dedicating an area of Old Trafford to like-minded fans who want to sing and support the team, to try and create a din akin to what we’ve heard on our travels this season.
At a meeting with senior United officials on Monday, the club welcomed the idea and are willing to put aside the seats currently used by away fans. That could be 1,400, 1,900 or 2,500 seats where the view and acoustics are excellent. Fans who want to get behind the team can have those seats, mates can sit together and nobody will be moved from their seat because they are currently used by away fans. The area would initially be offered to existing season ticket holders – so that the same fans go every week.

Sir Alex Ferguson likes the idea, as do fans who’ve heard the suggestion.

“It’s a perfect opportunity to reinvigorate the atmosphere,” said Pete Boyle, who starts many of the OT songs. “Like-minded Reds can sing and generate a vibrant atmosphere like we see in Europe. Me and my mates are going to move to the new section and I urge all other season tickets holders who want to join us to come aboard. It’s time for fans to stop moaning, to stop being cynical and do something about the atmosphere.”

United are happy to let supporters take the lead on this idea. Happy, too, to let fans dress the area with the type of flags the Stretford End Flags group have organised and adorn the opposite end of the ground.

The prices will be the same as in the Stretford End second tier - currently £37/38 and unlikely to increase next season – with a 50 per cent discount offered to fans aged 16-17.

With decent stewards who are respected by the fans in their current sections and significant fan input, it can work. If you’re a current season ticket holder interested in the idea, email otsingingsection@hotmail.co.uk so that numbers can be gauged.

Schalke are playing well against Bilbao. Not just well they are the better team. Maybe we just gave up this cup.

    meh.

All this has been said before, I realise, but I'm not overly concerned about going out of this comp -

Going out of the CL so tamely still pisses me off however...

Javi Martinez would be an unbelievable signing for us if we could get him this summer. The guy oozes composure for such a big man. Also the fact he can comfortably slot in as cover in CB is a big plus.

I wonder is there any sniff of substance to the rumours linking him to us or is it all just caughtoffside generated speculation....

    I

    Unfortunately that's usually the case.

As a matter of interest when was the last time we signed a player after heavy transfer speculation? I'm not sure the Jones/De Gea/Young signings were very much public (or does my mind deceive me:P).
But players such as Nasri, Ozil, Sneijder spring to mind with regards to heavy speculation.

De Gea was tipped quite a few times, it wasn't much of a surprise.
Young was linked a few times I believe, but nothing too heavy.
Jones came out of nowhere for me anyways.

I think the reason the likes of Nasri, Ozil and Sneijder were linked so heavily is just because of their star status. Names with that linked with the club will sell more papers or attract more online readers etc which the likes of De Gea have no chance of doing to such a massive scale.

Last time I was thinking we would get a player around Apirl/May and then eventually did, I think was Owen Hargreaves or Carlos Tevez...

Does this mean Nico Gaitan, Javi Martinez and Eden Hazard will eventually end up at City?

The only one we were heavily linked with and ended up signing was Young iirc. The year before we signed Young I can remember a few places linking us with him for around 30m; thankfully we didnt move then and got him for a reasonable enough price in the end.

Martinez would be such a great fit for our midfield, fingers crossed Fergie remembers how impressive he was against us and makes a move for him!

Honestly, I can see fergie tying up any deals before the Euros, before he brings out his "no value in the market" line. Better off, not worth shelling out or competing with the other top dog's who will out bid anyone for any reason (I'm looking at you city and madrid).

Not that simple. Players and their agent's absolute ****ing LOVE the "I will decide my future after the Euro's, I just want to concentrate on playing for my country" crap when a major tournament is on. All too used to it at this stage.

De Gea too. It was even reported that deal was done few months before it was announced. He was linked with us for almost whole year. Him and Neuer.

Also apart from Valencia all our signings from past 2-3 years came as a surprise.

This summer will tell us a lot about how much money Fergie is able to spend under the Glazers.

He must know we need to sign at least 3 top players in summer especially with Berba leaving.

Although it's least of my worries until the season is over.

So Macheda, Owen, Berba, Bebe and Park to leave this summer?

    Ando to go?

Im not sure if Anderson will go unless they get a offer they be happy with.

I personally would sell him, and I was guy who before season started said he would really push on this season(one of the few here), although the injuries have been main culprit.

Anderson is really too inconsistent. I reckon we should invest any transfer money into development of a time machine to bring Scholes back to 23.

I'd like for someone to be bought with the intention of playing alongside Michael Carrick, who has been class this year.

    What's the latest on Pogba?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,582 ✭✭✭VW 1

Latest on Pogba is no news.

Don't you think Cleverley should be given a game or two beside Carrick before buying someone, I think the two are a perfect fit for each other.

Definitley don't see the sense in selling Ando. He has had a lot of injuries but he has also shown glimpses of what he can do given a sustained run in the team, most notably with Cleverley at the start of the season.

I think people forget he is only one year older than Cleverley because he has been in and around the first team for so long. Would anyone want Cleverley sold if he had an injury blighted season next year too?

Does Cleverly have the injury history Anderson does? Has he ever played more than 7 or 8 games in a row? We wouldn't get much for him thats the only reason it wouldn't make much sense to get rid imo.
