Going to France this June for two weeks.

Just wondering if anybody has purchased cover from breakdowncover.ie and if anybody has had to use it, and if it was a good service ?

I see it is quoted as costing 79 euro on the website.

I have that cover for my European trip this summer. It seems sound enough and a few people on other threads recommended it along with another German breakdown cover that i was a bit dubious off. Its a bit different than the 300e i was quoted from the AA.

We always get AA five star insurance when we go away. Have had to use it once or twice too! Defo worth it IMO. We didn't have to pay a penny.

Is there anybody who bought cover from www.breakdowncover.ie and has had to use it ? And if so, was it ok ?

I checked the like for like with the AA and Breakdown cover.ie and breakdown cover give you less for your money if things go horribly wrong.

If you need a car breakdown give you less days. If you need accomodation breakdown cover gives you a lower allowance and for less days.

Other things as well. Do a comparison yourself and see.

I will be buying mine next week. Im not getting my new car till Tuesday so I don't know the reg yet.

Went on to the AA website, 2 weeks 5 star cover for a vehicle less than 8 years old 119 euro.
8 years and older 183 euro.
    Mine is 8 years old.

Breakdowncover.ie only cover cars up to 1.5 tonnes. So any large diesel car can't get cover.

Thats mad. I just checked a Superb 7 speed DSG car which is one of the biggest Saloons floating around at the moment. The brochure says an unladen weight of 1.724 Tonnes.

Cornmarket have multi-trip family travel insurance for €77 that includes breakdown cover if you don't already have a travel policy. Haven't compared it to other policies but I was just looking for cheap. The car can be up to 10 years old.

Course you never really know how good it is until you have to make a claim and glad to say I didn't have to.

It looks like both Breakdowncover.ie and Cornmarket are underwritten by
    Mapfre Asistencia.

I can have a year's European breakdown cover with Breakdowncover.ie, underwritten by Mapfre Asistencia for 79 euro.

    or

I can have a year's multi trip travel insurance and European breakdown cover, underwritten by Mapfre Asistencia for 77 euro.

I think Cornmarket wins, unless I am missing something ?

    That time of year again.

Looking for breakdown cover for a trip to France this summer.

Unfortunately My car is too old to get cover for this with breakdowncover.ie (Pre-2003).

Can't seem to get a quote on Cornmarket for this.

Anybody know of anything else available ?

Can't beat AA 5star , timeing belt went in the middle of Paris with ten days still to go on the trip. Within 2 hours we had a hire car and were on our way again. Our own car was back in Ireland before us.

I went on to aaireland.ie and got a quote 196euro for two weeks european breakdown cover.

Looking for something for about half this price.

Am looking for breakdown assistence cover for a 2 week holiday in France.
I checked with Cornmarket who said they don't do it and Mapfree who only do it within Ireland.

Is the AA the only other option?
    They are quite expensive... €188

I actually had just assumed it was part of my existing policy but it's not.

Check with your insurence company. We got AA 5star this year, €128 I think. When we contacted AXA to inform them that were going to France they offered us breakdown insurence for something like €44. Too late at that stage.
